      Green Hellebore. Burt. Melanthaceae.

Mind

      Stupefaction; congestion.

Mental confusion, loss of memory; vertigo; cerebral hyperaemia.

Insanity from cerebral congestion.

Puerperal mania; silent, suspicious; will not see her physician, he seems to terrify her; fears being poisoned; sleepless, can hardly be kept in her bedroom.

Depression of spirits.

Inner Head

      Headache from nape of neck, with vertigo, dim vision, dilated pupils.

Congestion to head: from high living, abuse of stimulants; during dentition.

Fulness in head, throbbing arteries: increased sensitiveness to sounds : buzzing in the ears; double or partial vision. Sunstroke.

Meningitis, high fever intense congestion, later rolling of head; vomiting; or face haggard, cold, and pulse slow; breathing labored.

Outer Head

      Severe frontal headache, with vomiting.

Eyes

      Dimness of vision, with dilated pupils.

Green circles around the candle, which turn to red.

Traumatic erysipelas of eyelids.

Twitching, contortion of eyes, rolling of eyeballs; paralysis of lids.

Ears

      Deafness from moving quickly, with faintness.

Roaring in ears; congestion; nausea, vomiting.

Ears cold and pale.

Nose

      Profuse secretion of mucus from the nose.

Face

      Cold, bluish, covered with cold sweat; nose pinched, cold, blue; paleness of the lips and around alae nasi.

Convulsive twitchings of facial muscles.

Face flushed; cerebral congestion.

Lower Face

      Mouth drawn down at one corner.

Lips dry; mouth dry, or thick mucus in mouth.

Teeth Dentition; cerebral congestion, excited pulse; convulsions.

Tongue etc.

      Tongue: yellow, with red streak down the middle; feels scalded.

Mouth

      Copious secretion of saliva.

Throat

      Dryness and heat in throat, with severe hiccough.

Burning in fauces and oesophagus, with constant inclination to swallow.

Spasm of oesophagus, with or without rising of frothy, bloody mucus.

Sensation as of a ball rising into oesophagus.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Heart-burn with bitter, sour rising.

Vomiting: long-continuing; of glairy mucus after food; of blood; of bile.

Vomiting, with inflammatory or cerebral disease.

Smallest quantity of food or drink is immediately rejected.

Stomach

      Sharp, flying pains n epigastrium and umbilical region passing to pubes.

Excruciating pain, covering a space the size of hand, in lower part of stomach.

Intense drawing, twisting pains in stomach, as if it was drawn tightly against spine, causing pain in dorsal region.

Pains culminate every five minutes in severe vomiting.

Abdomen

      As if drawn in, following cramp in stomach.

Pains at right of umbilicus, passing down to groin.

Enteritis, with high fever, great vascular excitement; vomiting; dark, bloody stools.

Stool etc.

      Stools: bloody; black, in typhoid; copious, light, mornings; mushy, preceded and followed by cutting in bowels.

Hemorrhoids red and dark blue; neuralgic pains in the rectum.

Urine

      Increased, pale; deposits a reddish sediment.

Specific gravity of urine diminished.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menstrual colic, preceded by great congestion, and troublesome strangury; plethoric women.

Suppressed menses, with cerebral congestion; plethora.

Pregnancy

      Vomiting during pregnancy.

Puerperal convulsions, during labor, after blood letting; furious delirium; arterial excitement; cold, clammy sweat.

Breathing

      Labored, must sit up, cold sweat on the face; decreased from to, pneumonia.

Oppression of the chest.

Cough

      Short, dry, hacking; loose, rattling; worse going from warm to cold.

Lungs

      Congestion of chest, with rapid respiration, nausea, vomiting; dull burning in region of heart.

Pneumonia, pulse hard, strong, quick or, engorgement of lungs, with faint feeling in stomach, nausea, slow or intermittent pulse.

Heart Pulse

      In cardiac region: burning; prickling; or dull aching.

Heart’s beat: loud, strong, with arterial excitement; low and feeble; fluttering.

Faintness and blindness; when rising from lying; from sudden motions; better lying quietly.

Pulse : suddenly increases and gradually decreases below normal; slow, soft, weak; irregular, intermittent.

Neck Back

      Aching in back of neck and shoulders.

Muscles of back contracted, drawing head backward.

Opisthotonos; arterial excitement; hands and feet cold; shocks in limbs; congestion of brain and spine, loss of consciousness.

Heat and redness down spine; back of head hot. Spotted fever.

Lower Limbs

      Pain in either great trochanter when lying on it.

Lancinating pain in right hip.

Right ankle feels as if dislocated, can scarcely walk; later left.

Limbs in General

      Rheumatism, especially in left shoulder, hip and knee; high fever; scanty red urine.

Flying pains; pains in joints; shuddering; rheumatism.

Cramps in legs, fingers, toes.

Pain, especially about the condyles.

Position etc.

      Moving : Walking : Rising (from lying ): Must sit up: Lying quietly : on affected side : Rolling of head : of eyeballs: Mouth drawn at one corner. :.

Nerves

      Twitchings and contortions of body, unaffected by sleep; froth about lips; champing of teeth; difficult swallowing; head, jerking or continually nodding; sexual excitement; chorea.

Violent spasms, like galvanic shocks.

Convulsions after scarlet fever; great dilatation of pupils; inability to sleep.

Opisthotonic convulsions in anaemic subjects from exhausting diarrhoea.

Trembling, as if child was frightened and on verge of a spasm.

Convulsions with opisthotonos; anaemia from diarrhoea.

Paralysis; tingling in limbs; cerebral hyperaemia.

Sleep

      Sleeplessness; cross, quarrelsome; also in acute fever.

Coma, blue face; spasms.

Restless sleep; dreams of drowning; of being on water.

      Sunstroke: Going from warm to cold :.

Chill Fever Sweat

      Coldness of whole body, cold sweat on face, hands, and feet.

Chilliness, with nausea.

Coldness, with pale skin, flabby muscles; quick, but weak pulse.

Typhoid fevers when pulse is full, hard, frequent; pain violent in back of head; delirium; black stools.

Irritative fever, with cerebral congestions, causing convulsions, children.

Tissues

      Congestions, especially of base of brain, chest, spine, stomach.

Dropsy, with fever. After scarlatina.

Contact Injuries etc.

      Rubbing relieves pains and itching:.

Skin

      Itching of different parts, better from rubbing.

Tingling and pricking in Skin.

Skin cold, clammy, bluish, insensible, shriveled.

Eruptions, with intense fever.

Measles, during febrile stage, especially if pulmonary congestion is impending; convulsions before eruption.

Scarlatina, with intense arterial excitement. Rheumatism, carditis, dropsy, as sequelae.

Small-pox, intense fever, restlessness, excessive pain.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
