Mind

      Easy comprehension, Intellect predominates over mind.

Passed quickly from one subject to another.

Intellect confused; replies incoherently.

Erroneous ideas; thinks she is some one else, move to edge of bed to make room; imagines animals lying near her which she fears she may hurt. Typhoid fever.

Ecstasy. Thinks himself distinguished.

Mild delirium, with great excitement and trembling.

Typhoid.

Fear, especially evening in dark, palpitation trembling.

Changeable; hypochondriacal anxiety or trembling excitability.

Hysteria, overexcitable, changeable disposition and ideas.

Sensorium

      Feels light, as if flying in the air.

Vertigo, when stooping.

Oversensitive.

Inner Head

      Headache appearing suddenly, or in jerks. Pressing, as from a stupefying constriction in forehead, drawing into orbits; face pale; worse evening at rest and in open air; better from movement, in room and when changing position.

One-sided drawing headache from a draft of air.

Headache in sunshine.

Stinging or pressing in forehead, extending to orbits.

Outer Head

      Icy-cold sensation in vertex from continuous pressure of the hat.

Eyes

      Vivid light like lighting, accompanied by dark spot to the side of the line of vision.

Luminous appearances before eyes in evening in dark.

Clear-sighted.

Better from light; worse in dark.

Expression of eyes peculiarly wild; hysterical neuralgia.

Edges of lids inflamed, with biting, stinging.

Face

      Cheeks red and hot, especially in open air.

White blisters, with elevated red base on cheek and upper lip, painful to touch.

Fierce pains through left side of face, darting into teeth and ear; muscles twitch; hysterical neuralgia.

Facial pains, appearing suddenly and in jerks.

Spasmodic twitching and drawing in the cheek-bones.

Lower Face

      Lips encrusted.

Teeth

      Stinging pain in teeth.

Tongue etc.

      Taste as of rancid tallow; greasy.

Tongue thickly coated, foul.

Desires Aversions

      Voracious hunger, with nausea.

Eating and Drinking

      Worse on an empty stomach; better after breakfast.

After dinner : When eating :.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Eructations like putrid eggs, morning on waking.

Heart-burn, gulping of a rancid fluid which does not rise into the mouth.

Nausea, with sensation as from a string hanging down throat; profuse ptyalism.

Nauseated, faint; lips white, body icy-cold.

Stomach

      Pressing, aching in pit of stomach, as from something forcing a passage through it; neuralgia of limbs.

Hypochondria

      Sudden warm rising from epigastrium, with difficult breathing. Hysteria.

Abdomen

      Distended, hard.

Colic : hysterical, especially evenings in bed; after dinner; from hemorrhoids : from worm.

Stool etc.

      Discharge of ascarides.

Thin watery diarrhoea, with lumps of coagulated milk : diarrhoea of children. Greenish, papescent stool, passing with blood; constant pressing and violent screaming; diarrhoea of children.

Urine

      Increased and more frequent.

During urination, much starting and prolapsus recti.

Sediment of urine red or white.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menses too late and scanty.

Pregnancy

      The child vomits as soon as it nurses. after the mother has been angry.

Breathing

      Choking in throat-pit on point of falling asleep, she awakens as if suffocating.

Inspirations grow less deep and more rapid until they cease; then she catches her breath by a sobbing effort; so on in spells. Asthma.

Lungs

      Frequent jerks and stitches in chest, with a sensation as if something pressed out; worse in lower part of chest.

Heart Pulse

      Stitches in region of heart.

Pulse rapid, somewhat tense, or small and weak.

Neck Back

      Spine irritated, in beginning of typhoid fever.

Pain in the loins, as from cold or overlifting.

Bubbling pressure above anus in coccygeal region.

Upper Limbs

      Rheumatic pains in scapulae.

Darting along the arms, shoulders and face; hysterical neuralgia.

Lower Limbs

      Pain in hip and thigh, intolerable when standing, as if thigh would break’ ischias.

Acute, crampy, tearing pain in posterior muscles, especially those of calf, better in morning and when rubbing affected part; worse toward evening and when quiet.

Limbs in General

      Rheumatic pains in limbs, rarely in joints; worse during rest after previous exertion; better from movement.

Arms and legs move normally but when at rest, jerk and twitch. Hysteria.

Chill Fever Sweat

      Chill : of short duration; followed by long-lasting heat with dulness of head and thirst; begins in neck and runs down the back. Fainting during cold stage.

Long-lasting heat, often with sweat on the face. Heat predominates.

Increased heat, evenings, and when eating.

In evening, spell of fugitive heat with thirst; no shivering; with the neuralgia of limbs.

Sweat profuse, worse at night or from exertion, with violent heat.

Frequent and suddenly ceasing attacks of sweat, mostly on forehead.

Better after sweat.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
