Mind

      Must do everything in a great hurry.

Unwilling to answer; says yes or no with difficulty, pulse very small and frequent.

Disheartened.

Inclined to weep.

Irritable, restless.

Mental excitability.

Sensorium

      Sensation in forehead as if brain was loose and falling from side to side; worse when walking in the open air; better when sitting quiet in room.

Rush of blood to head in headache.

Inner Head

      Painful shocks in forehead and temples, worse in forenoon and evening.

Headache as if a plug were thirst quickly, by increasingly severe blows, in head.

Gradually increasing and suddenly ceasing headache.

Outer Head

      Hair turns grey, falls out; eruption on scalp, very sore; worse in open air.

Eyes

      Full with tears, when reading.

Tension in eyelids in morning; difficult to open them.

Deep blue circle under right eye.

Feeling as of a lump in right outer canthus; on closing eye seems to move to inner canthus, and to return on opening.

In chronic inflammation of eyes; more frequently useful in beginning, later Sulphur.

Ears

      Hardness of hearing; feeling as of leaf lying before ear.

Buzzing in right ear. Neuralgia.

Nose

      Nosebleed: oozing of dark, thin blood; evenings; worse from smelling coffee; of old people.

Coryza, alternately dry and fluent; with loss of smell and taste, hunger, sore eyes and tension in forehead.

Face

      Crusta lactea, with stringy, yellow stools.

Face: deadly pale; feels as if white of an egg had dried on it. Dry, shriveled spots in face (with hemorrhoids).

Pain commencing at P.M. in ramus of lower jaw and temple of right side, better from warmth, and from lying on affected side. Comes gradually, leaves suddenly.

Lower Face

      Shooting, stinging pain in red scar on lower jaw.

Lips peel off.

Teeth

      Toothache; worse in evening in bed, aggravated by cold; better from heat.

Dull toothache concentrating in right eye-tooth; hurts when eating and on pressure. Pain increases slowly, ceases suddenly.

Destruction of teeth. Diabetes mellitus.

Tongue etc.

      Loss of taste.

Talking difficult, as from want of elasticity of the parts.

Tongue dry.

Mouth

      Sensation of dryness.

Much saliva.

Aphthous mouth and gums; yellowish and painful.

Throat

      Thick yellow membrane on fauces, tonsils, teeth, lips; stick- like glue; impeded deglutition; voice thick; parotids swollen, sopor; stench from mouth.

Stringy, lemon-yellow mucus hangs form posterior nares in diphtheria.

Roughness in throat.

Lancinating in throat and chest at same time.

Constricted feeling in throat.

Desires Aversions

      Desire: for fresh fruit; for brandy.

Loss of appetite and great debility. Odor of coffee aggravates;.

Eating and Drinking

      Water causes a cold of the stomach if not mixed with alcoholic liquor.

Ailments: from drinking brandy (symptoms are palliated by drinking wine); from eating oysters.

After eating, pain in stomach, and rising of food by the mouthful.

When eating teeth hurt:.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Belching after cough.

Chronic heart-burn, sour eructations.

Nausea with chilliness.

Sour vomit, first water, then food.

Vomiting, of drunkards.

Raising of mucus so sour that it sets teeth on edge.

Stomach

      Coldness and relaxed feeling in the stomach.

Dyspepsia.

Hypochondria

      Spleen enlarged, hard and painful; hurts when coughing.

Abdomen

      Labor-like pains in abdomen, extending to hips and back.

Colic, with sensation as if a hernia would protrude.

Violent protrusion of an inguinal hernia.

Stool etc.

      Diarrhoea with great debility.

Stools: diarrhoeic, with passage of much flatus; watery and very offensive, like rotten eggs; bright yellow, mucous looking stringy or chopped, cholera infantum; of hard, small, black lumps, mixed with blood, with violent pinching in anus.

Hemorrhoids feel damp, painful to touch, itch violently; stools cause violent burning stinging tearing pains, or the tumors prevent passage,.

Urine

      Diminished secretion of brown urine, becoming turbid, like loam-water, on standing.

Sediment like blood and a cuticle on the urine.

Pain in bladder if the call to urinate is postponed.

Male Sexual Organs

      Erections.

Orchitis, right side.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menses too early and too profuse.

Distressing nightmare before the menses.

In climaxis, spitting of blood; costive.

Leucorrhoea: acrid or burning; milky or transparent; of sanguineous mucus, with a sensation as if the menses would appear.

Prolapsus of vagina; parts look greenish and smell badly.

Pregnancy

      Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.

Sterility, with menses too early and too profuse.

Larynx

      Hoarseness with dryness and roughness in throat and larynx.

Larynx painful; feels inelastic, causing difficulty in talking.

Breathing

      Shortness of breathe.

Cough

      Dry, too short hacks; soreness between scapulae; tiredness; from irritation in chest, with expectoration, in the morning, of dark blood, or of a thin, yellow, blood-streaked mucus, tasting sour; after cough, belching; in the open air; worse from walking, riding, cold water, and odor of coffee.

Cough and haemoptysis after typhus.

Lungs

      Stitches in chest; about heart.

Sensation of great weakness in chest.

Burning in left side of chest up to throat.

Shooting, stinging, now in scapula, again in arm-pit, or in chest.

Profuse hemorrhage from the lungs: tuberculosis.

Ulcerations in different parts of lungs.

Heart Pulse

      Palpitation of heart, with or without fear or anxiety.

Shooting through the heart.

Pulse: small, feeble, accelerated; affected by alcoholic drinks.

Outer Chest

      Sternum sore, as if beaten.

Neck Back

      Stiffness in back on rising in morning.

Blood-boils on the back.

Large suppurating swelling on right side of neck.

Upper Limbs

      Stitches: in shoulder-joints on lifting the arms; in finger- joints.

Tension in elbow-joint.

Chilblains on hands.

Red swelling on back of hand, not painful.

Blue spots on the arms.

After erysipelas, inflamed swelling of little finger.

Lower Limbs

      Knees painfully weak.

Ankles weak, can’t walk.

Feet cold, swollen.

Distention of veins of feet.

Stitching in corns.

Red itching spots on tibia.

Blood-red, very painful scar on tibia.

Chill Fever Sweat

Sweat: excessive, mostly on upper body; from motion, continued after sitting down; sour; cold, immediately after eating warm food; mornings; at night profuse; lessened by drinking wine.

Attacks

      Itching of skin every Spring; formation of single pustules.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
