Mind

      Weak memory.

Disinclined to mental work.

Restless and anxious; solicitude about the future.

Gloomy, suicidal mood.

Afraid of pointed things, as pins; easily irritated or offended.

Sensorium

      Vertigo : as if he would fall, worse in morning on rising, with headache, depriving him of his senses; when looking down or turning the eyes; with nausea.

Inner Head

      Nervous headache, worse from thinking, from noise or anything jarring; face pale; anxious palpitation; nausea and vomiting.

Tearing in forehead, paroxysmal, with fixed eyes.

Boring from within outward, in the forehead, vertex or cerebellum.

Pulsating stitches in frontal protuberances.

Stitches in left side of head and out of left eye.

Pressing headache, mostly in right temple; worse from least motion or noise; better on rest, and lying with head high.

Headache beginning at cerebellum (in morning), spreading over left side of head, causing violent and pulsating pain in left temple and over left eye; periodical.

Dull stitches from within outward, on top of head; worse from touch and after washing, but better while washing it.

Feels as if the head would burst.

Painfulness of cerebellum, with stiff neck.

Headache when stooping, as from a band around the head.

Outer Head

      Shaking in brain, worse when moving head or stepping hard.

Tension on the scalp.

Scalp feel sore to touch.

Head feels as if too large.

Eyes

      Feels as if feathers were on the lashes; worse wiping them.

Foresighted.

Photophobia; oversensitive retina.

Asthenopia (accommodative), slight retinitis; neuralgia; or with anaemia of the optic nerve from excessive tea drinking.

Dilated pupils.

Sharp, stabbing, sticking pains through eye ball back into head, or radiating; worse from moving eyes and at night.

Eyeballs feel too large.

Boring pains, supraorbital and temporal.

Superciliary ridge pains; worse from any change in the weather.

Bluish ring around the cornea; iris discolored.

Rheumatic ophthalmia, profuse lachrymation with or without pain; ptosis.

Strabismus, with worms.

Upper lids feel hard and immovable; stabbing pain in eyes.

Lids inflamed and ulcerated.

Chronic twitching of eyelids.

Ears

      Hearing oversensitive, in neuralgia and headache.

Periodical deafness : ears feel as if stuffed.

Otalgia, with pressing as from a plug.

Nose

      Violent nosebleed; also with endocarditis.

Coryza fluent; with dry heat, no thirst; eyes water; headaches, with hoarseness, and anxiety about the heart.

Copious offensive mucus, flows through posterior nares, causing choking at night.

Tickling and itching in nose.

Herpetic eruption on nose.

Face

      Bloated, distorted; worse morning on awaking; pale, sickly; yellow around the eyes : red; sweaty.

Prosopalgia, mostly left-sided, with tearing, shooting, burning into eye, malar bone and teeth, periodical; from morning until sunset, worse at noon; worse from motion or noise; with lachrymation, ciliary neuralgia, palpitation;cheek dark red.

Lower Face

      Lips dry, pale, cracked.

Neuralgia radiating to nose, face, temples and neck.

Teeth

      Toothache : throbbing in decayed teeth; pressing outward, teeth feel cold; better while eating; worse after eating; from cold water; and at night, driving out of bed.

Tongue etc.

      Taste like putrid water.

Stammering; with abdominal ailments.

Tongue : coated yellow, burning, with blisters; cracked.

Mouth

      Breath fetid.

Mouth dry on awaking mornings, with stinging.

Mouth feels dry and pricks as from pins, yet filled with tenacious and nauseous saliva.

White or yellow mucus in mouth and throat.

Throat

      Sensation as of a worm rising in throat.

Tingling in oesophagus.

Desires Aversions

      Ravenous hunger with nausea and thirst.

Loss of appetite with violent thirst.

Desire for alcoholic drinks.

Eating and Drinking

      Worse before breakfast :.

Better during and generally after eating.

Worse from excessive tea drinking (optic nerve) : Better while eating, worse afterwards (toothache) :.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Nausea before breakfast; with sensation of a worm rising in throat; better after eating; sickly, pale face. worms.

Vomits food, with sour rising like vinegar.

Stomach

      Pit of stomach sensitive to touch.

Pressure in stomach as from a hard lump.

Hypochondria

      Stitches in region of diaphragm, left side, arresting the breathing.

Heavy pressure in precordial region causing constriction and anxiety; with cutting and griping in bowels as from wind.

Abdomen

      Cutting colic at navel.

Pressure in umbilical region as from a hard lump.

Stool etc.

      Emission of fetid flatus.

Stools : of mucus with tenesmus; large lumps of mucus without feces; of feces with masses of worms; hard like sheep’s dung and enveloped in mucus.

Itching and tickling in anus and rectum. Ascarides.

Urine

      Copious; with frequent urging, mostly at night; drips involuntarily, with burning in orifice of urethra; with whitish sediment.

Male Sexual Organs

      Erections with voluptuous fancies, but without sexual desire.

Swelling of one-half of corona glandis.

Tingling around corona glandis.

Pregnancy

      Stitches under either nipple.

Breathing

      Short-breathed, worse when talking, with red cheeks and lips.

Dyspnoea and suffocating attacks when moving in bed, or raising arms; must lie on right side, or with head high.

Heart disease.

Cough

      At night with catarrh; dry, hard; with worm affections; with dyspnoea, which is worse when bending forward.

Lungs

      Constriction in chest, with anxiety and difficult breathing.

Stitches in chest, worse from least movement, or when breathing.

Sensation of tearing in chest.

Trembling feeling, worse from any movement.

Can lie only on right side, with head high. Hydrothorax.

Heart Pulse

      Stitches about heart: sometimes synchronous with pulse; with anxiety and oppression; often commencing with valvular disease, endocarditis, etc.

Purring feeling over heart; wave-like motion, not synchronous with the pulse.

Palpitation : violent, worse bending forward; high fever; stitching pains; when he sits down, after rising in the morning: from deep inspiration or holding the breath; from worms; from least motion.

Systolic blowing at the apex.

Nervous palpitation, with intermittent pulse.

Pulse : irregular; strong, but slow; trembling.

Outer Chest

      Painful contraction of muscles.

Shootings under left clavicle, or on a line with the heart.

Neck Back

      Rheumatism of nape of neck, with painful numbness; worse lying on back.

Stitches in back, also when breathing.

Upper Limbs

      Trembling of arms.

Stitches in bends of elbows and joints of hands and fingers.

Contraction of flexors of fingers.

Lower Limbs

      Sprain of the foot.

Lancinating pain on sole of foot, when standing.

Offensive-smelling night-sweat, with heat at the same time.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
