Mind

      Inclination to quarrel and contradict.

Dissatisfied with himself and others.

Anxious and low-spirited, with mental; dejection.

Melancholy disposition toward evening.

Sensorium

      Vertigo: in the morning when rising: when sitting; when walking in the open-air.

Inner Head

      Headache: as if a nail were driven into head; like a stupefying pressure on whole brain; after excessive use of intoxicating drinks.

Pulsative, pressing pain in forehead.

Stitching, drawing pain from forehead to temples.

Heat in head, with much restlessness.

Outer Head

      Large, painful swelling on scalp, as if originating in periosteum, sore to touch and preceded by rending pain.

Head externally painful, as if bruised or beaten.

Erysipelas of scalp, arising from wounds.

Humid scabs on head.

Periosteum, from temples to occiput, pains as if bruised.

corrosive itching on scalp.

Eyes

      Itching at inner canthus and on lower lid, smarting after rubbing, eye becomes full of water.

Eyes burn, ache, feel strained, sight blurred, from fine sewing; reading too much, or otherwise overtaxing them; worse using them in evening.

Green halo around light in evening.

Spots on the cornea.

Eyes water in open air, not in-door.

Spasms of lower eyelids, afterward lachrymation.

Ears

      Scratching, pressure in ear, like from a blunt piece of wood.

Pain, as if bruised, in cartilage of ear, and under mastoid process.

Nose

      Sweat on dorsum of nose.

Bleeding of nose, with pressure at root of nose.

Face

      Erysipelas and swelling on forehead.

Pain, as if bruised, in periosteum of facial bones.

Lower Face

      Lips dry and sticky.

Mouth

      Gums painful, and bleed readily.

Throat

      Sensation as from a lump in the throat on empty deglutition.

Desires Aversions

      Thirst for cold water, in the afternoon.

Eating and Drinking

      After eating: sudden nausea; pinching in stomach after bread and butter; eructations and itching of skin after meat: replete as soon as he eats.

Intoxicating drinks:.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Hiccough, with depression.

Nausea, sudden, while eating, with vomiting of the food.

Stomach

      Burning or gnawing in stomach.

Dyspepsia from lifting heavy weights, with eructations and headache; cannot eat meat, it causes eructations and pruritus.

Hypochondria

      Gnawing, pressing pain in region of liver.

Painful swelling of spleen.

Abdomen

      Gnawing pain about navel.

Colic in children, from worms.

Colic, with burning or gnawing pain.

Stool etc.

      Stool: soft, discharged with difficulty, from inactivity of the rectum; rectum protrudes immediately on attempting a passage; lumpy, slimy or bloody, with much flatus; seemingly only flatus; empty eructations, distended abdomen; feces often escape when bending over.

Frequent, unsuccessful urging, with prolapsus ani.

Constipation, alternating with mucous, frothy stools.

Tearing stitches in rectum, when sitting.

Urine

      Urging constantly, could hardly retain urine if forcibly retained, it could not be voided; severe pains.

Urination involuntary at night, and during day when walking.

Pressure on bladder as if continually full; at every step after urination, she feels as if bladder were full and moving up and down.

Frequent pressure to urinate, with scanty, green urine.

Spasmodic stricture of neck of bladder.

Female Sexual Organs

      Corrosive leucorrhoea after irregular or suppressed menses.

Pregnancy

      Metrorrhagia as a forerunner of miscarriage.

Prolapsus ani after confinement.

Larynx

      Sensation in larynx as from a bruise.

Breathing

      Short breath, with tightness of chest.

Cough

      With copious expectoration of thick, yellow mucus, with weak feeling in chest after it.

Lungs

      Gnawing pain in chest.

Phthisis after mechanical injuries of chest.

Heart Pulse

      Anxious palpitation.

Pulse unchanged; or somewhat accelerated only during heat.

Outer Chest

      On sternum a painful spot; also painful pressure.

Neck Back

      Pain on a spot, the size of palm of hand, below right scapula; worse in evening, after exertion, deep inspiration, or moving right arm; better from pressure.

Pain in back or coccyx, as if bruised.

Weakness in lumbar region; prolapsus recti.

Stitches in small of back when sitting, stooping or walking; better by pressure and when lying down.

Upper Limbs

      Pain in left elbow-join, as from a blow; arm weak.

Wrists feel as if sprained, stiff;worse in wet, cold weather.

Ganglion of the wrist.

Hands numb and tingle after exercise.

Flat, smooth warts on inside of hand.

Contraction of fingers.

Lower Limbs

      Hip-bones feel bruised., Anterior aspect of thighs feel bruised; painful to touch.

Shooting from back, down outside of left thigh on first moving or rising; hamstrings feel shortened. Sciatica.

Hamstrings feel shortened and weak, knees give way going up or down stairs.

Ankles pain in bones of feet, cannot step heavily thereon.

Limbs in General

      Rheumatism of right wrist and both feet; instep puffy; sour sweat.

Position, etc.

      Restless and weak, turns and changes place frequently, when lying.

Nerves

Chill Fever Sweat

      Chilly mostly left-sided; worse up and down back; shakes even near warm stove.

Frequent attacks of quick flushes of heat.

Heat, mostly afternoons, with anxiety, restlessness and dyspnoea; but no thirst.

Sweat, cold on face; morning in bed.

General sweat, after walking in open air.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
