      Wafer Ash Rutaceae.

Mind

      Nervous, irritable starts from a voice.

Sad, irritable; hurried manner, but dazed and confused with muddled feeling in the head.

Disinclined to mental work, with languor rather than with inability.

Dazed, confused as in a bilious attack.

Memory weak; forgetful as if intellection was slow: yet by collecting thoughts could recall things read many years ago.

Sensorium

      Confusion; raises a bitter fluid.

Vertigo, worse turning head or from sudden motions, with dulness nd languor, rumbling about the navel nausea, griping, aching in stomach; worse when writing rising or in a warm room.

Inner Head

      Headache in bones of skull.

Splitting headache, worse mental exertion, stooping or moving eyes with nausea.

Dull aching in the forehead with depression and sour stomach; racking pain, with hurried manner and red face.

pain from forehead to root of nose; sensation of a nail driven into the brain, worse in the morning on rising.

Throbbing over one eye. Darting pains over left eye deep into head.

Hot flushes and pain in top of head and eyes.

Pain in left temple running across to the right.

Headache in the occipital region passing to the frontal, over the eyes.

Pressive feeling at the base of the brain, compared to the bruised headache of Ipecac.

Headaches are worse from mental exertion, moving eyes, walking, noise, warmth and on awaking, mornings.

Ears

      Intolerance of loud talking.

Ringing in the ears: Slight giddiness.

Nose

      Breath seems so hot that it burns the nostrils, Nasal passage sore. Sneezing.

Face

      Expression: Sickly, pale, especially around the eyes.

Color yellow, skin dry and hard.

Teeth

      Carious teeth sensitive gums sore; Teeth feel as if elongated.

Tongue etc.

      Coating white fur, swollen; yellow feels rough, papillae red and prominent; brown yellow dry.

Taste sour, morning; bitter.

Food seems tasteless.

Mouth

      Dry, with bitter taste.

Saliva profuse drooling at night.

Throat

      pricking pains in throat; fauces inflamed worse right side.

Hawking of mucus from the pharynx; lips and tongue dry.

Desires Aversions

      Appetite voracious craves acid food.

Dislike thing formerly enjoyed.

Repugnance to butter and fats, appetite poor also to animal food and to rich puddings.

Appetite poor muddled feeling or pains in liver.

Thirst.

No thirst with bitter taste.

Eating and Drinking

      Worse from cheese meat, pudding, etc.

Hepatic and gastric symptoms worse after meals,.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Eructations: sour; bitter; tasting of rotten eggs.

Nausea rising of a bitter fluid confused head, dizzy sweat on forehead; bilious.

Stomach

      Sense of weight and fulness after even a moderate meal.

Distress epigastrium and right hypochondrium, with drawing pains in fingers and ankles. Burning distress; oppression; vomiting; chronic gastric catarrh.

Empty feeling. Faint feeling in stomach sour risings.

Pressure at pit as from stone, worse from a light meal.

Gripping cutting pains in the epigastrium; pressure causes nausea.

Hypochondria

      Liver swollen sore on pressure causing dull and aching pain; griping in the bowels; clothes feel too tight.

Weight, aching, distress in the hepatic region; dull pain; heaviness better lying on the right side; turning to the left causes a dragging sensation.

Sharp, cutting pain in liver worse from a deep inspiration.

Abdomen

      Bloated, with weight on the stomach.

Soreness of the abdomen, worse bending body, feels like supporting it with the hands. Feeling of warmth.

Aching distress in bowels back and legs.

Pulsation in the umbilical region synchronous with the heart.

Griping, colicky pains; heavy aching; throbbing about the navel. Colic, bitter taste; with rumbling and discharge of wind from the bowels.

Stools etc.

      Continual urging with pressure on the rectum; with scanty or absent stool; rectal torpidity.

Diarrhoea; bilious thin, fecal, dark, offensive, even cadaverous in smell, sulphuric in odor; with tenesmus; preceded by griping pain and rumbling; smarting in the anus.

Constipation passes balls of hard faces.

Diarrhoea and constipation alternately.

Urine

      Smarting in urethra during and after micturition.

Scalding urine, scanty and difficult of retention.

Urine clear deep reddish-yellow scanty; deposit of epithelia, phosphates and urates.

Male Sexual Organs

      Sexual desires increased; later, lost.

Breathing

      Feeling of pressure on the lungs and of suffocation when lying on the back on awaking, 1 A.M.

Lungs

      Uneasiness, difficulty in breathing dull pain in right infraclavicular region, hacking cough dulness on percussion (following gastric and hepatic symptoms).

Neck Back

      Aching distress in back, bowels and legs; rumbling of wind.

Lumbar pains: Severe aching, distress, soreness on awaking or awakes him at 4 A.M.

Limbs in General

      Aching; bruised feeling in muscles and joints on awaking. Drawing pains. Worse with gastro-hepatic symptoms.

Nerves

      Restless uneasy; malaise.

Temperature and Weather

      Generally better in open air (except lung) worse in warm room., etc.

Chill Fever Sweat

      Chilliness, shivering; with the stool. Wants to be near the fire.

Dry generally heat; worse face hands irritable, intolerant of noise.

Hot flushes and slight headache; feverish, hot head, dull frontal aching.

Sweat: profuse on awaking; on forehead during stool, or with raising of a bitter fluid.

Tissues

      Mucous membranes are congested and irritated, with sense of roughness, smarting or prickling.

Causes congestion of liver, stomach and bowels, and secondarily of the lungs. Is indicated briefly when there are irritability dull, confused, frontal headache; bitter taste, eructations like rotten eggs or bitter; swollen liver relief from lying on right side, bilious stools; languor muscular soreness.

Skin

      Itching all over as from flea-bites.

White blisters on a red base on right ear, discharging a watery fluid later desquamation or pus and scabs form; boils.

Spots on limbs red, later purple worse when warm or excited; annoying itching. On disappearing they leave yellowish marks like bruises.

Relationship

      Related to other Rutaceae, and by the possession of Berberina, also to Podoph, Berber. Hydrast. etc.

From Nux vom, Ptelea is distinguished by repugnance to fat, offensive flatus; from Mercur. by relief of hepatic symptoms when lying on right side.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
