      May Apple Mandrake Jeanes Berberideae.


      Conscious during chill but cannot talk, forgets the words he wishes to use.

Delirium loquacity during heat; afterwards forgetful of what has passed.

Depression; imagines he is going to die, or be very ill. Depression of spirits; also, in gastric affections.

Disgust for life, headache.


      Vertigo: while standing in open air; with tendency to fall forward with sensation of fulness over eyes.

Inner Head

      Stunning headache through temples, better from pressure.

Pressing in temples in forenoon, with drawing in eyes as if strabismus would follow.

Mist before eyes; the fleeting pains, worse at occipital protuberances, down the neck and shoulders, better when lying down in a quiet and dark place, and from sleep.

Head hot, rolling the head from side to side, moaning. Dentition.

Momentary darts of pain in forehead, obliging one to shut eyes.

Headache alternating with diarrhoea.

Morning headache with flushed face.

Outer Head

      Sweat of the head during sleep flesh cold. Dentition.


      Ulceration of cornea; conjunctiva hyperaemic; smarting aching heaviness (from grinding root) Scrofulous ophthalmia, worse in morning.


      Hot, cheeks flushed. Infantile diarrhoea.


      Great desire to press gums together; jaws clenched; grind teeth at night, difficult dentition.

Tongue etc.

      Total loss of taste, could not tell sweet from sour sleepless, restless.

Everything tastes sour.

Tongue: furred white, with foul taste; white, moist, shows imprints of teeth; dry, yellow.


      Offensive odor from mouth.

Copious salivation.

Mouth and tongue dry, on awaking.


      Sore throat right to left side sore, worse when swallowing liquids, and morning. soreness of throat extends to ears.

Rattling of mucus in throat.


Pharynx dry, deglutition painful.

Desires Aversions

      Appetite variable at times voracious.

Great thirst for large quantities of cold water.

Satiety from small quantity of food, followed by nausea and vomiting.

Moderate thirst during fever.

Eating and Drinking

      After eating: regurgitation of food, sour; hot, sour belching; diarrhoea. Vomits food one hour after eating craving after ward; depression of spirits.

After acid fruit and milk, diarrhoea. While eating:.

Nausea and vomiting.

      Eructations: smelling like rotten eggs; hot, sour.

Regurgitation of food.

Gagging. Infantile diarrhoea.

Nausea and vomiting with fulness of head.

Vomiting: of milk in infants with protrusion of anus; of food, with putrid taste and odor; of thick bile and blood; with congestion of the pelvic viscera, during pregnancy.


      Hollow sensation in epigastrium.

Stitches in epigastrium from coughing.

Stomach contracts violently during retching.

Dyspepsia after abuse of calomel; tongue shows teeth prints conjunctiva yellow; aching behind eyes; clayey stools.

Gastric catarrh.


      Fulness in right hypochondrium, with flatus, pain and soreness.

Stitches, worse while eating.

Excessive secretion of bile; great irritability of the liver, Torpidity of liver; jaundice.

Twisting pain in right hypochondrium, with sensation of heat there.

Chronic hepatitis; costive jaundice; constantly rubbing and stroking hypochondrium with hands.

Jaundice with gall-stones; pain from region of stomach toward region of gall-bladder, with excessive nausea.

Jaundice, with hyperaemia of liver; fulness, soreness and pain; alternate constipation and diarrhoea.


      Pain in bowels at day break better from external warmth and bending forward while lying on side; worse lying on back.

Cramp-like pain in bowels with retraction of abdominal muscles, 1 P.M. and again at 5 A.M. until 9 A.M.; lead colic.

Frequent but transient abdominal pain, during the day better from pressure.

Rumbling in ascending colon.

pain in transverse colon 3 A.M. followed by diarrhoea.

Sharp pain in right groin, preventing motion, latter months of pregnancy.

Stool etc.

      Stool: frequent, painless, watery fetid discharges, gushing out; yellow-colored with meal-like sediment; green sour, with flatulence; morning, during dentition; greenish-yellow, slimy bloody, gelatinous, mixed with feces; tenesmus and prolapsus ani; with severe straining, much flatulence emitted; mucus with spots and streaks of blood; black only in morning chalk-like, fecal, undigested; muco-gelatinous stools preceded by griping and colic stools coated with shreds of yellow mucus.

Diarrhoea while being washed; after eating dirty water soaking napkin through.

Diarrhoea with great sinking at epigastrium, sensation as if everything would drop through the pelvis.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
