      Nerium oleander. Hahnemann. Apocynaceae.

Mind

      Weak memory.

Absence of mind, want of attention.

Slowness of perception.

Difficult comprehension of what he reads.

Indolence, aversion to do anything.

Cannot bear contradiction, flushes of heat.

Sensorium

      Vertigo: for a long time before the paralysis; when rising from bed; when looking fixedly, or looking down while standing.

Heaviness of the head; better when lying down.

Faintness, as from weakness: relieved by sweat.

Inner Head

      Headache improved by looking cross-eyed.

Pressive pain from within outward, in the forehead.

Pain in the forehead, as if it would split.

Outer Head

      Biting-itching on scalp, as from vermin, worse back part of head and behind ears; better when first scratching it; followed by burning and soreness, which gives place to biting-itching; worse in evening when undressing.

Humid, scaly, biting-itching eruption, especially on back part of head.

Eyes

      When reading, burning and tension in the eyelids; lachrymation.

Double vision.

Eyes sunken.

Ears

      Herpes and ulcers on and around the ears.

Cramp-like drawing on the auricle.

Face

      Pale, sunken face in the morning, with blue rings around the eyes.

Alternate paleness and dark-redness of the face.

Lower Face

      Numbness of the upper lip.

Foaming at the mouth.

Teeth

      Toothache only when masticating.

Drawing in the molar teeth at night when lying down, with anxiety, nausea and frequent micturition.

Bluish-white gums.

Tongue etc.

      Loss of speech.

Tongue : rough, dirty-white, with elevated papillae coated white, with dryness of the mouth.

Food has a weak, insipid taste.

Desires Aversions

      Ravenous hunger, with trembling of hands and hasty eating, without appetite.

Much thirst especially for cold water.

Wants brandy :.

Eating and Drinking

      Violent empty eructations while eating.

After coffee :.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Vomiting of food and bitter greenish water. Brandy relieves vomiting,.

After vomiting, ravenous hunger and thirst.

Stomach

      Pulsation in the pit of the stomach, as if the beats of the heart were felt through the whole thorax.

Emptiness in pit of stomach, even after eating; from nursing.

Sinking in pit of stomach, suddenly, with nausea or vomiting; wants brandy, which relieves.

Abdomen

      Stitches and gnawing about the navel.

Rolling and rumbling in the intestines, with emission of a great quantity of fetid flatus.

Stool etc.

      Ineffectual urging to stool.

Rolling and rumbling, with emission of flatus, smelling like rotten eggs.

Stools thin, yellow, undigested, involuntary when emitting flatus.

Passes food undigested in the morning which he ate the day before.

First, diarrhoea, then had, difficult stool; during pregnancy.

Stool and urine involuntary.

Diarrhoea, with intestinal ulcers. Tuberculosis.

Burning at the anus before and after stool.

Urine

      Frequent profuse urination, especially after drinking coffee.

Urine brown, burning, with whitish sediment.

Larynx

      Viscid mucus in the trachea.

Breathing

      Oppressed breathing when lying; also as if the chest were too narrow, with long, deep breathing.

Stertorous breathing.

Cough

      Violent shaking cough from tickling in the larynx.

Lungs

      Dull stitches in left chest, continuing during inhalation and exhalation.

Sensation of emptiness and coldness in the chest.

Heart Pulse

      Dull, drawing pain over the heart, worse when stooping.

Palpitation, with weakness and empty feeling of chest, and at the same time fullness in pit of stomach.

Anxious palpitation; chest feels expanded.

Pulse: quick, skin hot; changeable, irregular; weak and slow mornings, full and rapid evenings.

Outer Chest

      Dull, lasting stitch in the sternum.

Upper Limbs

      Hands tremble when writing.

Fingers stiff and swollen, with burning pains.

Veins on hands swollen.

Itch-like eruption on inside of wrist and between fingers.

Lower Limbs

      Itch-like eruption between nates.

Weakness of the lower limbs, with sensation in the soles as if “asleep,” when walking.

Trembling knees, when standing.

Feet constantly cold.

Position etc.

      Motion : causes spasms.

Nerves

      Painless paralysis.

Stiffness and coldness of limbs.

Loss of muscular power; trembling.

Violent spasmodic contractions of the muscles; more those of upper part of body and of left side.

Sleep

      Yawning: with trembling of lower jaw; with chilliness and trembling of muscles.

Restless sleep, frequent waking.

Voluptuous dreams, with seminal emissions.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
