Mind

      Dulness of head during coryza;better walking in open air.

Delirium, with increased fever; with ulcers on fauces and tonsils.

Cheerful in evening, after pleasant things happened; merry; though head is worse.

Low-spirited, disposed to cry.

Ill-humor and bad taste on waking in morning.

Sensorium

      Vertigo, during grippe; things seem to reel around her.

Inner Head

      Sensation as if bound by a tight cord, in frontal region.

Beating, throbbing from right of sinciput to vertex.

Headache, with grippe.

Pressure over the eyes.

Headache worse afternoon and evening; dull, stolid.

Outer Head

      Pains in bones of head, chiefly occipital.

Small pustules on the head.

Pannus and old granular eyelids.

Eyes

      Eyes inflammed, burn, water; catarrh; bright light irritates.

Ears

      Hearing dull; better evenings; ears close for a few moments at a time; coryza.

Earache in right ear.

Itching in ears.

Ear wax increased.

Swelling of parotid and neighboring glands.

Nose

      Coryza and dull hearing, better getting warm by walking.

Right side of nose hot, swollen with coryza.

Much sneezing, with running from the nose.

Whitish-yellow, or bloody discharge; affection of posterior nares, with raw sensation; nasal bones diseased; turbinated bones swollen.

Hawks mucus from posterior nares.

Crusty eruption of wings of nose.

Face

      Aching in left cheek and eye.

Scabs on the face, right side.

Lower Face

      Pain in jaws and temples.

Eczema rubrum on chin.

Teeth

      Gums swollen, toothache, glands swollen; boil in the mouth, sleepless; alternately melancholic and cheerful; in periodic

spells.

Tongue etc.

      Taste : slimy on awaking; bitter; metallic.

Tongue dry, wants to wet the mouth.

Scalded feeling on tongue (one hour after breakfast), small blister on point.

Tongue furred, with grippe.

Aphthae on the tongue.

Mouth

      Profuse saliva, mouth full; teeth of lower jaw ache; metallic taste.

Soreness of middle of inside of left cheek.

Throat

      Hawks much; spits a tough, white phlegm.

Sensation of a lump in throat, with disposition to hawk it out; hawked up a hard, greenish lump.

Sticking in the throat.

On waking, throat sore; feels scalded, worse during empty swallowing.

Left tonsil swollen; fauces dark red; diphtheritic patches; submaxillary glands painfully engorged.

Slight superficial ulcers in the throat, in patches.

Difficult deglutition, with ulcers in the throat.

Tonsils suppurating.

Worse from empty swallowing. Diphtheria.

Velum long, seemingly causing the cough; left tonsil inflamed.

Desires Aversions

      Desire to drink but small quantities.

Inclination to have the food more salted.

Eating and Drinking

      Heart-burn after dinner.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Loud and bitter belching.

Nausea and sore throat.

Nausea and sinking at the stomach, or in the epigastrium, with a general sick feeling.

Nausea while passing a diarrhoeic stool.

Hypochondria

      Aching and full feeling in right hypochondrium.

Sudden cutting pain in the region of the liver.

Heavy, painful feeling in region of liver, pancreas and spleen.

Abdomen

      Distended abdomen about the navel, with pain at the part on pressure.

Colic, followed by stool.

Uneasy sore feeling all over bowels.

Stool etc.

      Stool copious, yellow-brown, somewhat watery and coated with mucus, and slightly bloody; preceded by griping and colicky pains; urging and slight tenesmus remained afterwards.

Inveterate piles.

Urine

      Increased flow of urine.

Frequent desire to urinate, she cannot hold her water for a moment.

Urine : thick and dark when passing; red.

Ulcers in the bladder.

Male Sexual Organs

      Sexual desire, particularly on going to sleep.

Nocturnal emissions.

Sensitiveness of right testicle and cord.

Hard, red swelling of front of prepuce; and painless, hard chancre in the centre.

Sarcocele of left testicle. Syphilis.

Bubo, discharging for years. Indolent chancre.

Larynx

      Complete loss of voice.

Hoarse and husky shortly after getting a little wet in an evening shower.

Patches of inflammation livid, purple; thin, offensive discharge.

Swelling of bronchial glands; subacute processes arising from the influence of cold or atmospheric variations.

Cough

      From elongated uvula; with sore throat; with a little loose, whitish, slimy sputum.

Grippe, with fever, headache, giddiness, furred tongue; sweat in bed.

Profuse yellow sputa.

Lungs

      Awoke from a transient feeling of great soreness in whole breast.

Constriction across the chest.

Catching pain under right breast, oppressing the breathing.

Heart Pulse

      Sharp cutting pain in chest and sticking pain in the heart.

Outer Chest

      Sticking in muscles of ribs, left side, after walking out during thawing weather.

Neck Back

      Swollen glands on neck, with toothache, scarlatina, etc.

Spine sore or painful.

Upper Limbs

      Rheumatic pains in shoulder-joint.

Axillary glands suppurate.

Dull aching, strained sensation in middle of os humeri, as if about to break.

Rheumatic pains, soreness, stiffness in left arm, worse by motion.

Palm of left hand cracked, horny, several oozing rhagades.

Lower Limbs

      Aching pains from hip to ankles, as though she had walked many miles, felt more in the bones.

Weakness of knee-joints.

Pains from calves up to the sacrum.

Insupportable pain and aching in legs toward evening. better on moving.

Violent tearing in soles; feet swollen, sore to touch, worse around ankles; after washing the floor.

Limbs in General

      Rheumatic pains, now here, now there, mostly muscular; alternately in arms and hands, legs and feet; violent pains like otalgia in left ear.

Nerves

      Weary, especially with rheumatic pain in fore arm; bruised feeling.

Sleep

      Drowsy 8 P.M.; also deep sleep every afternoon.

Toothache on going to sleep.

Insomnia, with ulcerated throat.

Restless from 12 P.M. till morning, with constriction in diaphragm.

Dreams : of swimming; gunning; travelling; lascivious.

On awaking : ill-humor; Dull head; slimy taste; throat sore; pain in chest.

Chill Fever Sweat

      Chilly at bedtime.

Intense shivering, followed by feverishness; chilly, followed by flush over face.

Flush of heat and feeling of being tickled.

Fever, with grippe.

Copious night-sweats; hot sweat.

After scarlatina, ulcers in fauces.

Hard papules here and there.

Hunterian chancre (given at once, it prevents secondary symptoms).

Pustules, inflamed base, sore to touch; itching slightly, scab over, but pus oozes.

Relationship

      Mercur, bi-iod. follows well after Bellad. in scarlatina.

Mercurius precipit. rub. is preferable for leaden heaviness in occiput, with otorrhoea.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
