Mind

      Stares at persons who talk to him, and dose not understand them.

Weakness of the intellect.

Mind sluggish, with torpid digestion.

Anxiety, preventing sleep.

Sensorium

      Vertigo, with coldness, cold perspiration; with deafness, when stooping.

Inner Head

      Violent temporal headache.

Heaviness of head.

Stitches in the forehead.

Outer Head

      Swelling of the head and neck.

Eyes

      Objects appear smaller; or, double vision.

Pupils contracted and insensible.

Excessive photophobia and acrid lachrymation.

Phlyctenulae, deep ulcers on the cornea; discharges ichorous, acrid, making the surrounding parts sore; pimples around the eyes like small boils.

Iritis, especially if syphilitic, pains severe, worse at night.

Retinitis albuminuria, also with tearing at the eyebrow, bones tender.

Hypopyon occurring in abscess of the cornea or iritis. Ophthalmia neonatorum, with acrid discharges; caused by syphilitic leucorrhoea.

Posterior synechiae; causes them to soften.

Lids; oedematous, or erysipelatous; red excoriated; edges swollen, burning, smarting; edges covered with thick crusts or pustules; spasmodically closed.

Ears

      Inflammation, with stitches in the ear.

Discharge of fetid pus from the ear.

Nose

      Swelling and redness of the nose.

Fluent coryza; loss of smell.

Ozaena, discharge from the nose like glue, drying up in the posterior nares; perforation of the septum.

Nose stopped up and at the same time runs; rawness, smarting in the nostrils.

Face

      Swelling and turning up of the upper lip; dark red, swollen lip.

Face and cheeks swollen, hard, red; bloated.

Paleness of the distorted face.

Oedematous swelling of the face, paleness; albuminuria.

Yellow color of the face.

Teeth

      Looseness of the teeth, they pain and fall out.

Gums swell; covered with a false membrane; gangrenous; bleed freely.

Tongue etc.

      Lips and tongue, whitish and contracted.

Tongue coated with thick white mucus, or dry and red; papillae, elevated, strawberry-like; coated white, swollen and stiff.

Swelling of the tongue, with ptyalism.

Mouth

      Sensation as if the mouth was scalded.

Taste in the mouth, metallic or salty.

Mouth dry, with unquenchable thirst.

Exudations on mucous membranes, extending to tonsils.

Ulcers (phagedenic) in mouth, throat, or on gums, with fetid breath.

Ptyalism, with salty taste; saliva bloody, yellowish tough, acrid.

Painful burning in the mouth, extending to the stomach.

Discharge of albuminous mucus from the mouth.

Buccal cavity and lips covered with aphthae; on the lips they are surrounded by vesicles, which burn.

Throat

      Uvula swollen elongated, dark-red.

Throat intensely inflamed, preventing swallowing and causing suffocation.

Tonsils swollen and covered with ulcers.

Pricking in the throat as from needles.

Retching and vomiting on attempting to swallow.

Desires Aversions

      No appetite.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Vomiting: of albuminous matter; of tough, or stringy mucus; of green, bitter substances; of bile; of blood; like coffee-grounds, with coagulated blood; of pus.

Stomach

      Distension and soreness of the pit of stomach, not permitting the least touch, even of clothes.

Burning, gnawing, darting pains in the stomach.

Hypochondria

      Stitches as if in the middle of liver.

Abdomen

      Bloated abdomen, very painful to least touch.

Cutting Below the navel.

Bruised pain in the abdomen.

Pain and distention in colon, especially transverse portion.

Stool etc.

      Stools: yellow, green, bilious, followed by slime and blood; with tenesmus and insupportable cutting colicky pains; after stool, burning and tenesmus of rectum and bladder; worse in fall; worse after midnight.

Painful bloody discharges, with vomiting.

Constipation.

Urine

      Tenesmus of the bladder; urine suppressed.

Urine: increased; scanty, hot, bloody; passed in drops with great pain; scanty, brown, with brick-dust sediment.

Filaments, flocks or dark flesh-like piece of mucus in urine.

Albumen in urine; after diphtheria or in Morbus Brightii.

Gonorrhoea greenish, worse night; burning, smarting urination.

Paraphimosis.

Male Sexual Organs

      Violent erections during sleep.

Fine painful stinging in left testicle.

When the chancre assumes a phagedenic appearance and secrets a thin, ichorous pus.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menses too early and too profuse.

Leucorrhoea, pale yellow; smelling sweetish.

Larynx

      Hoarseness or aphonia; burning and stinging in the trachea, tightness across the chest.

Larynx and epiglottis pain when swallowing food; pain worse when depressing tongue; cutting in throat, as from a knife.

Breathing

      Respiration slow; interrupted, sighing.

Excessive dyspnoea; palpitation.

Lungs

      Haemoptysis.

Stitches in chest, through the thorax (right, lower side).

Heart Pulse

      Palpitation of the heart in sleep.

Pain in the precordial region.

Pulse small, weak, intermitting, sometimes trembling.

Neck Back

      Glands of neck hard and swollen.

Pains in head, back and limbs; kidneys affected., Lies on the back with knees up; Pott’s disease.

Upper Limbs

      Arm up to the shoulder much swollen, red and covered with vesicles.

Rheumatic pains in left shoulder and shoulder-blade.

The deltoid muscle feels relaxed.

Lower Limbs

      Stitches in the right hip-joint.

Sensation as if the legs had “gone to sleep.” The muscles of the thigh and calf feel relaxed.

Cramps in the calves. Dysentery.

The feet are icy-cold.

Limbs and General

      Coldness in the extremities, they look purple; with small spasmodic, frequent pulse.

Paralysis of the upper and lower extremities.

Position etc.

      Motion : Stooping : Rising :.

Nerves

      Convulsive twitching of muscles of face, arms and legs, and convulsions of limbs; convulsive contractions.

Trembling.

Sleep

      During sleep, violent hiccough.

Somnolence.

When trying to go to sleep, violent starts.

Sleeplessness on account of vertigo; on account of anxiety.

      Worse in the open air :.

Chill Fever Sweat

      Chilliness; from the least movement and in the open air, generally with colic; in the evening; especially on the head, at night in bed.

External heat, with yellow skin.

Burning, stinging heat in the skin.

Heat when stooping, and coldness when rising.

Sweat night, or fetid toward morning.

Cold sweat, often only on the forehead; or, general cold sweat; with anxiety.

Swelling of glands.

Necrosis of the upper jaw.

Skin

      Burning and redness of the skin with the formation of small vesicles.

Grey color of the nails.

Severe and stubborn eczema of the sweating parts of the body exposed to the fumes of the poison.

Condylomata Rash of secondary syphilis.

Ulcers which perforate or become phagedenic.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
