Mind

      Desponding; sobbing like a child.

Apprehension of death and difficulty of breathing.

Sensorium

      Vertigo : and deathly nausea; as if starting from left eye.

Inner Head

      Headache, with slight giddiness.

Dull, heavy pain passing around forehead, form one temple to the other, just above the eyebrows.

Pressing outwards in both temples.

Pains through the head in sudden shocks.

Outer Head

      Chilliness in left side of head, commencing in ear, with feeling as if the hair would rise on end.

Pressing pain on left side of occiput, worse at night and from motion.

Drawing upward, in a narrow stripe, form right side of throat to behind the ear.

Eyes

      Hemiopia.

Pressure on the upper half of eyeballs.

Ears

      Sudden shutting up of the right ear, as if stopped by a plug, at 2 P.M., only relieved while boring with his finger in the ear.

Nose

      Nosebleed.

Tip of nose very cold.

Face

      Neuralgia of left side of face and temples, with retarded menses.

Flushes of heat, or heat of the face.

Sweat on the face with the nausea.

Chilly feeling in left cheek, near ear, extending to lower jaw.

Cyanosis. Emphysema.

Teeth

      Dull, pressing pain in last left molar, with same sensation in temples.

Mouth

      Flow of clammy saliva in the mouth (with nausea).

Throat

      Burning in throat; dryness of fauces, spitting at intervals.

Tough mucus in fauces, causing frequent hawking.

Dryness and pricking in throat, not diminished by drinking.

Sensation of a lump in pit of throat, impeding deglutition.

Sensation as if oesophagus contracted from below upward.

Desires Aversions

      Loss of appetite, with acrid, burning taste in the mouth.

No appetite for dinner.

Eating and Drinking

      After breakfast; pressing outward, in both temples; itching in left canthus.

Faint, weak at stomach form excessive use of green tea or tobacco.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Hiccough : with profuse flow of saliva; in the evening, followed by drowsiness.

Frequent empty eructations, with flow of water into mouth.

Frequent gulping up of a burning, sour fluid.

Acidity in stomach, with contractive feeling in pit of stomach.

Incessant, violent nausea.

Nausea, with profuse perspiration and copious vomiting.

Heart-burn and running of water from the mouth.

Vomiting, with cold perspiration of the face.

Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, with profuse running of water from the mouth; morning sickness.

Nausea disappearing very suddenly.

Nausea in last stages of phthisis pulmonaris.

Nausea worse at night and after sleeping; relieved by a little food or drink.

Stomach

      Heat or burning in the stomach.

Sensation in stomach: of weight; of a lump; as from undigested food.

Feeling of weakness of stomach, or in the pit of stomach, extending through the whole chest and lower down to umbilicus.

Bruised soreness from pit of stomach through to back, after cramp in stomach.

Sensation of oppression at epigastrium, as if the stomach was too full; worse on pressure.

Hypochondria

      Fulness and pressure in hypochondria after eating.

Pinching in abdomen, near the edge of liver.

Abdomen

      Pain in the abdomen, worse after eating.

Rumbling in bowels and passage of flatus downward.

Sudden sharp pain in left side of abdomen.

Abdomen distended, with shortness of breath.

Tympanitis.

Stool etc.

      Stool : soft, but passed with great exertion; green, soft; frequent, loose during day, with great obtuseness of the head.

Discharge of blood after stool.

Bleeding piles; copious hemorrhage.

Urine

      Sticking pain in the region of the right kidney.

Urine increased or diminished.

Urine of a deep red color, depositing a copious, red sediment. Brown sediment.

Male Sexual Organs

      Smarting of the prepuce.

Sensation of weight in the genitals.

Aching pain in the urethra.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menses too early, too profuse.

Violent pain in sacrum; sense of great weight in genitals.

Pregnancy

      Morning sickness :.

With every uterine contraction violent dyspnoea, which seems to neutralize the labor pains; rigid os uteri.

Larynx

      Oppression felt in the throat-pit. Spasmodic asthma.

Sensation of fulness in trachea, as if arising from chest, causing a few short coughs, followed by warmth in forehead.

Peculiar sensation, between tickling and acrid feeling in larynx; two short coughs; feeling of narrowness.

Breathing

      Sensation of a foreign body in the throat, impeding the breathing and swallowing.

Dyspnoea and asthma, with sensation as of a lump in the pit of the throat, immediately above the sternum.

Contraction of chest, with deep inhalations.

Want of breath, hysterical.

Impossibility of deep inspiration; extreme dyspnoea.

Short inhalation and long, deep exhalation.

Inclination to sigh, or to get a very deep breath; deep inspiration relieves the pressive pain in the epigastrium.

Asthma, worse from exertion, with a disorder stomach, especially a feeling of weakness in the pit of stomach; asthmatic attacks often preceded by prickling all over, even to fingers and toes.

Cough

      Cough: with vomiturition; with pain in stomach; short, dry;

only a single one, from a feeling of narrowness of chest.

Whooping-cough, violent racking; seemingly from deep in chest, in paroxysms of long continuance: followed by expectoration of ropy mucus adhering to pharynx.

Cough, with sneezing, gaping and flatulent eructations. Bronchitis.

Lungs

      Pressure on the chest; left chest above the nipple.

Spasmodic contraction of diaphragm.

Pain in chest, with the breathing, while sitting after dinner; disappears when moving about.

Pain in lower chest, mostly left side.

Burning feeling in chest, passing upward.

Heart Pulse

      Slight, deep-seated pain in region of heart.

Sensation of weakness and pressure in epigastrium, rising to the heart.

Sawing sound about heart, with violent pains, diarrhoea and vomiting.

Short sensation, as if heart would stand still; deep in, above heart, a pain.

Pulse: frequent, but small, weak, in evening slower than usual.

Outer Chest

      Repeated quivering in muscles of the left ribs toward spine.

Pressure on lower portion of sternum left side.

Tension in left chest, from nipple to arm-pit.

Pain behind the sternum.

Neck Back

      Swelling and pain on left side of neck.

Rheumatic pain between the scapulae.

Dull pressure between the shoulder-blades.

Pain under the right shoulder-blade, worse when bending forward.

About noon a burning pain in back, as if in posterior wall of stomach.

Extreme tenderness over sacrum; cannot bear slightest touch; cries out if any attempt is made to touch the part; sits up in bed, leaning forward.

Upper Limbs

      Lame feeling in left upper arm.

Rheumatic pain in right shoulder-joint, goes to left upper arm and around elbow-joint.

Fine crawling stitches, inside of right deltoid.

Pain in right deltoid, on a place size of palm of hand, sore to touch.

A sharp shooting pain in an old scar of the right finger.

Sweat of the palms of hands, back of hand is dry and cool; tips of fingers feel very cold; while walking out in the coldest winter weather, but remaining the same in-doors.

Lower Limbs

      Inflammatory rheumatism in the right knee; swelling and extreme pain.

Painful stiffness in knees, as after a long march.

Limbs in General

      Shooting pain through whole body, down into tips of fingers and toes.

Nerves

      Weakness; feels too weak to stretch out her hand to do anything.

Sleep

      Nearly all symptoms disappear in the evening.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
