      Marsh tea. HAHNEMANN. Ericaceae.

Mind

      Desire for solitude.

After nightmare, fears to go to sleep, lest she die.

Inclined to be out of humor and angry; vehement.

Dissatisfied; hates his fellow-beings.

Sensorium

      Vertigo : as from intoxication, especially when walking in open air; feels dull after eating; head inclined to fall backward.

Inner Head

      Stupefying headache, causing dulness.

Raging, pulsating headache.

Pressing headache, with distress, when head is covered.

Headache, as if something was gnawing in her temples, occiput and ears.

Head affected after getting wet.

Outer Head

      The least covering to the head is intolerable.

Eyes

      Photophobia, with severe pain on attempting to open lids.

Pupils dilated.

Pressure (or dull pain) behind eyeballs, as if they would be pressed out.

Ecchymoses of the conjunctiva.

Nightly agglutination of eyes, with inflammation or pain.

Burning on border of lids and feeling of stand in eyes. Lachrymation : the tears are acrid, and make the lower lids and cheeks sore.

Ears

      Ringing, or roaring in the ears, as from wind.

Hardness of hearing : (right ear) as if the ear were obstructed by cotton; after cutting the hair; after chilling the head.

Nose

      Long-lasting nosebleed; afterward sore in upper part of nose, with violent burning; blood pale.

Face

      Pimples and blood boils on the forehead.

Face : alternately pale and red; bloated.

Scaly, dry herpes in the face, burning in the open air.

Glandular swelling under the chin.

Tetter-like, crusty eruption around nose and mouth with itching, smarting and burning.

Tongue etc.

      Stinging on the forepart of the tongue.

Bitter taste in the mouth.

Mouth

      Offensive breath.

Throat

      Sore throat, with fine stinging pain, worse when not swallowing.

Sensation as from a lump in the throat; when swallowing the pain is stinging.

Malignant sore throat.

Great heat in throat, when moving in the open air.

Eating and Drinking

      After eating : hurriedly, contracting pain in breast-bone; pressure in stomach after a small quantity of food; feels dull ().

Nausea and Vomiting

      Sudden running of water from the mouth; water-brash.

Nausea when spitting.

Abdomen

      Sensation of fulness in upper part of abdomen.

Colic every evening.

Pain as if diarrhoea would set in, from the umbilicus to the anus, with loss of appetite and cold feet.

Pain in the loins after sitting.

Ascites.

Stool etc.

      Constipation; the stool is mixed up with blood.

Diarrhoea, stool mixed with mucus and blood; great want of animal heat.

Sore itching, smarting, humid spot between anus and coccyx.

Urine

      Frequent or diminished or increased in quantity.

Stream of urine often stops during its flow.

Itching redness, discharge of pus.

Burning in urethra after urinating.

Male Sexual Organs

      Inflammatory swelling of the penis; the urethra is almost closed.

Increased sexual desire.

Nightly emission bloody.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menstruation too early and too profuse; the blood is bright red; absence of vital heat.

Profuse leucorrhoea; pale face; copious urination, even at night.

Pregnancy

      Milk-leg.

During last months of pregnancy an indescribable pain, like a gnawing stiffness, in sacrum and hip-bone, down over the whole thigh, worse when standing.

Larynx

      Tickling in larynx, with haemoptysis.

Breathing

      Spasmodic, double inspiration, with sobbing, as after hard crying.

Oppressed quick breathing; oppressed painful breathing.

Suffocative arrest of breathing and opisthotonos previous to coughing.

Oppressive constriction of chest, worse from motion and walking.

Cough

      Hollow, racking, spasmodic, from tickling in larynx; before cough he loses his breath; after cough, dizziness, staggering; double, sobbing inspiration.

Expectoration after 12 P.M. and in the morning, fetid purulent, or bright red, foaming blood.

Lungs

      Congestion to the chest, with haemoptysis.

Burning soreness in the chest; soreness under the sternum.

Stitches in the chest.

Suppuration of the lungs.

Haemoptysis alternating with rheumatism.

Heart Pulse

      Pushing or pressure inward at left edges of sternum; palpitation; also in hemorrhage.

Pulse full and quick.

Outer Chest

      Eruption, like varicella, on the chest and upper arms, with desquamation.

Red spots and rash, with smarting-itching on chest.

Pain on and in the breast-bone, or below it.

The chest hurts when touched.

Neck Back

      Painful stiffness of the back and loins when rising from a seat.

Upper Limbs

      Severe stitch in shoulder, when raising arms.

Painful throbbing in the right shoulder.

Painful pressure in left or both shoulder-joints worse from motion.

Rheumatic pain in the joints of the arms.

Tremor of hands when seizing anything and when moving hands.

Itching rash on the wrist-joint.

Gouty nodosities on the hand and finger-joints; drawing pain form hands upward.

Perspiration in the palms of the hands.

Panaritium, form external injuries.

Lower Limbs

      Pressure in right hip-joint, worse from motion.

Rheumatic pains going form below upward, joints pale, swollen, tense, hot; with stinging, drawing pains; worse from warmth of bed and bed-covering, form motion, and in the evening before 12 P.M.

Affected limb cooler than rest of body.

Gout, worse in the feet; gouty nodosities on the joints; fine tearing in the toes.

Synovitis of knee, effusion; constant chilliness.

Swelling of the feet and up to knees.

Tremor of the knees (and hands) when sitting or walking.

Pain of the soles of the feet, as if bruised when walking.

Intense itching of top of feet and of the ankles, worse after scratching, much worse in warmth of bed.

Pinching, grasping pain in the left hamstrings, worse at night, with night-sweat and frequent urination; drawing pan from upper part of calf to the popliteal space, cannot lie on left side.

Ball of great toe painful, swollen, soles very sensitive; tendons stiff.

Limbs in General

      Rheumatism begins in the lower limbs and ascends.

Heat of hands and feet, evenings.

Long-lasting warm sweat of the hands and feet.

Nerves

      Anxiousness and fainting spells.

Talking in her sleep; nightmare throat feels swollen, sense of suffocation.

      Cannot beat heat of bed or stove; especially on account of burning and pain in the limbs.

Chill Fever Sweat

      Coldness, want of animal heat.

Chilliness, thirst, sensation as of cold water pouring over the parts; chilliness morning and forenoon.

Shivering over the back, with heat of the cheeks, without redness, on thirst, cold hands.

General coldness, with heat and redness of the face.

Parts cold to touch, but not to the patient himself.

Heat no thirst; on awaking covered with sweat, with general itching.

Burning in hands and feet in the evening.

Heat and sweat in alternation.

Night-sweats putrid or sour, with inclination to uncover; itching. Sweat, mostly on the forehead, from the least exertion.

Sensations

      Numbness and formication of the limbs.

Sensation of sand in eyes : as from a lump in the throat :; of fulness in upper part of abdomen :; as if cold water pouring : sense of suffocation :.

Tissues

      Emaciation of suffering parts.

OEdematous swellings of the whole body.

Contact Injuries etc.

      Touch :. Taking hold : Scratching : Splinters, external injuries cause panaritium. A misstep causes the sensation of concussion of the brain.

Skin

      Purple (bluish) spots over the body, like petechiae.

Dry, violent itching herpes, burning in the open air.

Blood-boils.

Dry skin, want of perspiration.

Scurfs, on dry, small nodules, often renewed.

Punctured wounds; stings of insects especially of mosquitoes.

Stages and States

      Pale, delicate women, who are always cold.

Relationship

      Ailments from abuse of alcoholic drinks.

It is an antidote to bee-stings; and also for the prostration following abuse of Colchic.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
