      Cherry Laurel. M. MUELLFR, HARTLAUB, WAHLE. Amygdalae.

Mind

      Loss of consciousness, with loss of speech and motion.

Insensibility and complete loss of sensation.

Dulness of the senses.

Weakness of mind and loss of memory.

Inability to collect one’s idea.

Fear and anxiety about imaginary evils.

Sensorium

      Stupefaction, with vertigo.

Vertigo : with disposition to sleep; worse in the open air.

Inner Head

      Stupefying pain in the whole head.

Pulsation in the head, with heat or with coldness.

Congestive headache; pulse depressed.

Sensation of looseness of the brain, as if it were falling into the forehead, when stooping, without pain.

Feeling of warmth in middle of forehead, then coolness as from a draft or air.

The brain feels contracted and painful.

Stitches in the head.

Outer Head

      Sensation of coldness in the forehead and vertex, as if a cold wind were blowing on it, descending through the neck to the back; worse in the room, better in the open air.

Itching of the hairy scalp.

Eyes

      Objects appear larger.

Sensation of a veil before the eyes.

Eyes; starting, wide open; lightly closed; distorted.

Pupils dilated, immovable.

Ears

      Hardness of hearing.

Tingling in the ears.

Itching in the ears.

Nose

      Nose feels stopped up; no air passes through.

Face

      Sunken, with livid, grey-yellow complexion; blue with gasping; bloated; idiotic expression of face. Chorea.

Twitching and convulsions of the facial muscles.

Titillation in the face, as if flies and spiders were crawling over the skin.

Eruption around the mouth.

Lower Face

      Lockjaw.

Tongue etc.

      Tongue : dry, rough, dry and white; cold; or numb as if burnt.

Left side of tongue stiff and swollen, with loss of speech.

Mouth

      Foam at mouth. Epilepsy.

Dryness in the mouth.

Throat

      Spasmodic deglutition. Chorea.

Impeded deglutition.

Spasmodic contraction in the throat and oesophagus.

The drink he takes rolls audibly through the oesophagus and intestines.

Desires Aversions

      Disgust for food, during pregnancy.

Violent thirst, with dry mouth.

Entire loss of appetite, with clean tongue.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Hiccough.

Nausea in the stomach and vomiting of the ingesta.

Eructations tasting like bitter almonds or prussic acid.

Pregnancy Vomiting of food. Cough.

Stomach

      Violent pain in stomach, with loss of speech.

Burning (or coldness) in the stomach and abdomen.

Contractive feeling in the region of the stomach, and cutting pain in the abdomen.

Hypochondria

      Sticking pain in the liver with pressure.

Region of liver distended, pains as from subcutaneous ulceration, or as if an abscess would burst.

Indurated liver; atrophic nutmeg liver.

Abdomen

      Pinching about the umbilicus.

Colicky pains in afternoon, and tearing pains in vertex at night.

Sensation like the falling of a heavy lump from just above the umbilicus to the small of the back; produced by talking or overexertion, also with spasmodic pains in cardiac region.

Stool etc.

      Diarrhoeic stools; with tenesmus; of green liquid mucus, with suffocative spells about the heart, forcing her to lie down; involuntary.

Constipation, stools hard, firm, and passed only with much straining.

Ineffectual urging to stool, with emission of flatus only.

Urine

      Suppressed urine. Cholera.

Retention of urine as form paralysis of the bladder; or, urine is voided slowly.

Involuntary urination.

The urine deposits a thick, reddish or mahogany-colored sediment, with floating, jelly-like flocks.

Itching in the forepart of the urethra.

Acid urine, corroding the labia.

Male Sexual Organs

      Gangrene of the penis.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menses : too early and too profuse; blood thin; with nightly tearing in the vertex.

Burning and stinging and below the mammae.

Larynx

      Scraping in the larynx, with increased secretion of mucus; hoarseness.

Spasmodic constriction of the trachea.

Laryngismus stridulus; heart affected.

Breathing

      Slow, feeble, moaning or rattling; slow, feeble, almost imperceptible; panting; very difficult.

Dyspnoea, with sensation as if lungs would not be sufficiently expanded or as if pressed against the spine.

Spasmodic oppression of the chest.

Gasping for breath; suffocating spells; he clutches at his heart; palpitation.

Cough

      Short, titillating : dyspnoea; from heart disease, as stenosis of the valves; cannot lie down; whizzing, with sensation as if the mucous membranes were too dry; worse towards evening from motion, stooping, eating and drinking, or warmth; with copious jelly-like sputa, dotted with bloody points.

Whooping-cough, day, whistling, no sputum; impending paralysis of the lungs.

Lungs

      Spasms of chest. Threatening paralysis of lungs.

Pleurisy of drunkards; pulse soft, but quick.

Heart Pulse

      Heart’s action irregular, pulse slow.

Stitches in region of heart.

Beating, fluttering sensation if region of heart; gasps for breath; sometimes has slight dry cough.

Palpitation of heart.

Cold, moist skin; convulsions of muscles of face : pulse scarcely perceptible.

Apoplexy.

Pulse extremely irregular; at times small and slow, often imperceptible; at others somewhat accelerated; seldom full and hard.

Cyanosis neonatorum.

Outer Chest

      Pain in every external part of the thorax on moving it.

Burning in the chest on taking an inspiration.

Neck Back

      Painful stiffness in left side of neck, and nape of neck and small of back.

Pressure in nape of neck, particularly in open air, compelling him to bend head forward.

Severe pain in sacral region, extending to pubis.

Upper Limbs

      Pressure on right shoulder or in shoulder-joint.

Pains as from lameness, also stitches, in right shoulder.

Stitch in both elbows.

Pain, as if sprained, in the right wrist-joint.

Distention of the veins on the hands.

Rough, scaly skin between the fingers, with burning when touched by water.

Lower Limbs

      Pain. as if sprained in the left hip-joint.

Sticking in the left knee.

The feet go to sleep (when crossing the legs or sitting.) Ulcerative pains in the lower part of the heels.

Stiffness of the feet after rising from the seat.

Cold, clammy feet up to knees. Chorea.

Limbs in General

      Ends of fingers and toes enlarged, knob-like.

Stinging and tearing in the limbs, Painless paralysis of the limbs.

Position etc.

      A little exercise produce a gasping for breath and increased blueness; cyanosis.

Nerves

      Want of energy of the vital powers and want of reaction, especially in chest affections.

Rapid sinking of the forces; long-lasting faints.

Epilepsy.

Clonic spasm of all the limbs, with paralytic weakness.

Chorea, with constant jerks, cannot keep still; speech indistinct, gets angry when not understood; gasping; emaciation; after fright.

Gasping before, during and after spasm; bluish skin.

Apoplexy, with paralyses.

Sleep

      Irresistible sleepiness, especially after dinner and in the evening.

Deep, snoring sleep; soporous conditions.

Time

Temperature and Weather

      Warmth : Open air : Room : Water :.

Chill Fever Sweat

      Chill and external coldness.

Cold, moist skin. Apoplexy.

Chill, coldness and shivering in the afternoon and evening, not relieved by external warmth.

Chill, alternating with heat. Want of natural animal heat.

Heat after the chill, from evening till midnight. Heat descending the back.

Sweat generally during and after heat, till toward morning.

Sweat after eating.

Sides

Sensations

      Painfulness with the ailments.

Acts on brain and spine, especially upon the medulla oblongata; hence characteristic tetanic spasms of the upper part of the body, gasping breathing, etc.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
