      Guaiaci Resina. HAHNEMANN. Zygophyllceae.


      Forgetfulness, especially of names.

Thoughtless staring : during the morning.

Disinclination to labor.

Sad and depressed.


      Dizziness on rising.

Inner Head

      Headache across the forehead.

Violent, sharp stitches in the brain.

Rheumatic pains in one side of head, extending to face.


Attacks of gout in the head.

Outer Head

      Neuralgia on left side of head and face, extending to neck.

External headache, with the sensation as if the blood-vessels were overfilled; extends to face and neck. Neuralgia.

Pulsative throbbing in outer parts of head, with stitches in temples; remove for a short time by external pressure and by walking, increased by sitting and standing.

Perspiration, principally on head and forehead (when walking in the open air).

Tearing pain in the skull.


      Dilated pupils.

Swelling of the eyes.

Sensation of swelling and protrusion of eyes; eyelids appear too short to cover them.

Hard pimples around the eyes.


      Painful dragging and tearing in left ear.

Violent otalgia, with tearing in the left ear.

Spasmodic earache.


      Pains in bones of the nose.

Pains from head to nose.

Nose swollen.

Fluent coryza.


      Heat in the face, especially in the evening.

Face : red and painfully swollen; gets spotted; eyes, nose, cheeks swell; looks old.

Lancinating and painful stitches in right malar bone and cheek.

Lower Face

      Dull ache in the left side of jaw.


      Toothache when biting the jaw together.

Tearing in the teeth, ending with stitches.

Tongue etc.

      Food does not taste right.

Thick white fur on tongue.


      Inflammation of the mouth.


      Violent burning in the throat.

Threatened tonsillitis.

Desires Aversions

      Violent hunger, in the afternoon and evening.

Much thirst.

Aversion to milk.

No appetite.

Aversion to all food, could not eat anything.

Desire for apples, which relieves gastric symptoms.

Eating and Drinking

      After eating without appetite, she gets sick.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Frequent empty eructations.

Nausea from sensation of phlegm in the throat.

Every morning vomits a mass of watery phlegm with great exertion.


      Burning in stomach and abdomen.


      Constrictive sensation in the epigastric region, with anguish and difficult breathing.


      Great accumulation of wind in the whole abdomen; pinching in abdomen from incarcerated flatulence, receding towards rectum until emitted.

Twitches in abdominal muscles.

Inguinal hernia.

Stool etc.

      Diarrhoea commencing in the morning; skin dry, chilly.

Cholera infantum, emaciation; face like that of an old person.

Costive;hard stool, crumbling; very offensive.


      Continuous urging even after urination, with profuse fetid urine. Stitches in neck of bladder after ineffectual pressure to urinate. Cutting in urethra while urinating, as from something biting passing.

Male Sexual Organs

      Nocturnal emissions without dreams.

Gonorrhoea-like discharge.

Female Sexual Organs

      Subacute and chronic ovaritis especially in rheumatic women.


      Chilly crawls over the mammae.


      Violent, spasmodic, inflammatory affection in the windpipe, most in larynx, with such palpitation of heart that they could not get out of bed, nor call for help; feel as if suffocating.


      Sudden stuffed feeling in praecordia, like an arrest of breathing; often attacks her suddenly even at night in sleep, causing dry cough, frequently repeated until expectoration appears.


      Tight, dry, with burning fever; hot face.

Coughing with copious spitting of phlegm, and later of stinking pus; coughing up blood.

Dry cough, relieved by detaching and raising a little mucus; rheumatic patients. See Heart.


      Pleuritic stitches; left side, worse from breathing deeply; especially in phthisis pulmonalis.

Intense pain in upper part of chest, from motion of the head; expectoration of fetid pus.

Heart Pulse


Sudden stuffed sensation in precordial region like an arrest of breathing; comes suddenly even when asleep, causing dry cough.

Pulse small, soft accelerated.

Neck Back

      pain from head to head.

Excessive stiffness of one of side of back from the neck extending to the small of back when moving.

Contractive pain between the scapulae.

Chilliness in the back, in the afternoon.

Shuddering after feverish chill in the back.

Aching in the nape of neck right and left of vertebrae.

Corrosive itching in the back (by day).

Upper Limbs

      Sharp stitches in the top of right shoulder.

Rheumatic pains in left arm, from shoulder or from elbow to wrist.

Stitches in the right thumb.

Pain first in knuckles then in whole hand.

Hands hot.

Lower Limbs

      Gouty inflammation and abscess at knee, repeated after a fall, with violent and pain and loss of sleep.

Pricking in the nates, as if sitting on needles.

Tension in thighs, especially the right as if muscles were to short with languor when walking worse from touch better when walking worse from touch better when sitting.

Pains begin in middle of thigh or leg and extend to knee.

Tearing drawing lancinations in leg, from right tarsus to knee.

Exhaustion in the lower limbs.

Spongoid state of the tibia.

The whole left leg is cramped.

Right leg swollen and contracted stiff immovable drawn close up to the thigh.

Violent stitches from outside of right of calf down to ankle.

Limbs in General

      Tearing and stinging in limbs. Pains after abuse of mercury.

Arthritic lancinations, followed by contractions of limbs.

Tearing pricking pains in the muscles of the extremities with heat of the parts.

The limbs go to sleep.

Stinging pains in the limbs, worse from the least motion.

      Yawning and stretching relieves the generally ill-feeling.

Temperature and Weather

      After a cold, violent pain in limbs.

Can bear no heat, with pain in joints.

Chill Fever Sweat

      Internal chilliness through the whole body followed by heat, most in face, towards evening without thirst.

Chilliness internally even near the warm stove, principally in the afternoon and evening.

Burning fever, face spotted; eyes, nose and cheeks swollen tight, dry cough.

Feeling of heat in the painful limbs; rheumatic cases.

Skin hot, especially on the hands.

Night-sweats smelling very offensive.

The provers that sweated had no urinary disturbances and vice versa.

The usual general sweat, changes to dryness and chilliness.

      Guaiacum; has proved useful after abuse of mercury in rheumatism, gout, contraction antidoted caustic., which had much increased the contraction of limbs in a rheumatic patient; also antidoted Rhus tox.

Nux vomica, antidotes Guaiacum.

Followed sulphur well in cholera infantum.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
