      Rattlesnake poison. Crotalidae.

Mind

      Nervous agitation anxious, pale, with cold sweat. Excessive sensitiveness;moved to tears by reading.

Memory weak; obtuse, stupid, cannot express himself correctly; makes ridiculous mistakes in spelling.

Perception diminished.

Mental delusions; awakes struggling with imaginary foes;l thinks he is surrounded by enemies or hideous animals.

Delirium languor, drowsiness, stupor.

Muttering delirium of typhoid. Delirium with wide open eyes; yellow fever.

Intense restlessness, twitching; delirious with moans.

Delirium tremens, nearly, constant drowsiness, but with inability to sleep; also in broken-down constitutions.

Melancholy with timidity, fear; anxiety weeping; or snappish temper.

Sadness, her thoughts dwell on death continually (C. Cascavella).

Sensorium

      Vertigo: with faintness, weakness, nervous trembling; with pale face; with falling and loss of consciousness auditory; cardiac, with soft, weak pulse; anaemic, better resting head; with venous congestion, degraded blood.

Fainting: on assuming an upright position; in attacks; and falling.

Apoplectic convulsions, especially at the onset of some zymotic constitution, or in inebriates.

Inner Head

      Headache dull, heavy, aching,. worse on awaking in the morning; makes mistakes in spelling; accompanied by vertigo, nausea, or malaise.

Dull, heavy, congested feeling in front of brain, worse from intellectual exertion.

Throbbing headache, nausea; before menses.

Severe pain at centre of forehead; dilated pupils; profuse menses.

Neuralgic pains in right eye, on top of head and down back of neck; pressure and heavy pain on top of head.

Dull, heavy pains over the eyes and in sides of nose; nervous depression of spirits.

Headache as if constricted, then sensitiveness of brain, pulsations: with sensitiveness of the heart when lying on the left side.

Dull, heavy, throbbing occipital headache, faint spells; hunger and general and general trembling: 1.

Outer Head

      Pustules, boils, carbuncles, slow in their progress, unhealthy or hemorrhagic.

Eyes

      Vision: dimness when reading; lost with lethargy and coldness; ptosis; lost, with falling to the ground powerless.

Blood oozes from the eyes; also retinal apoplexy.

Burning in the eyes. Redness with lachrymation.

Pressure and oppression above the eyes.

Neuralgic affection of the eye, as if a cut was made around the eye; sensitive to light.

Sensation of dryness and burning: redness, with a zone around the cornea.

Yellow color of the eyes; also of the whole body.

Ears

      Hearing: sensitive to noises. Insensible to noises.

Nervous deafness. Meniere’s disease: Blood oozes from the ears.

Nose

      Epistaxis, especially during diphtheria.

Ozaena of syphilitic origin or following exanthemata; sanguinolent discharge.

Redness or blueness of the point of the nose.

Face

      Expression: besotted; anxious, pale; of indifference; flushed, excited.

Color: livid, bloated; purple, face tumid; blue around sunken eyes, face chalky: yellow; flushed; death like pallor; leaden.

Cold sweat, drawn features, formication, trembling and quivering of lips and eyelids.

Face swollen, puffiness at angles of lower jaw; swelling of parotid and submaxillary glands.

Lower Face

      Lockjaw. Lips swollen; stiff and numb.

Teeth

      Grinds the teeth at night.

Gums swollen, painful, borders reddened: bleeding: white.

Tongue etc.

      Tongue red and sore; Yellow; stiff and numb; smooth and red; swollen and protruded.

Tongue and all around throat feel tied up, he cannot speak.

Mouth

      Salivation; flow bloody or frothy.

Throat

      Dry, with thirst.

Pricking, sensation of constriction in fauces.

Angina tonsillaris; constriction of throat; tongue yellow.

Sudden sore throat as if uvula and velum were swelling, with dry mouth; preceded by palpitation and trembling of heart.

Neuralgic drawing in fauces, worse left side near root of tongue, almost causing choking.

Sensation of swelling of velum,. with feeling of mucus on fauces, which must be swallowed or hawked up; or as if uvula hung too low; followed by yawning and headache in one spot to right of vertex.

Great difficulty in swallowing anything solid.

Desires Aversions

      Insatiable thirst, dry tongue, fever.

Hungry, trembling,. weakness; occipital headache:.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Heart-burn; oesophagus as if full of a rancid fluid.

Eructations sharp, sour rancid.

Nausea and malaise, anxiety; deathly sickness.

Vomiting: and giddiness; incessant with thirst; of grass-green fetid ejecta; bilious, with anxiety, palpitation, weak pulse; of blood; of blood; violent.

Ineffectual retching, with feebleness.

Stomach

      Weight on stomach, tremulous weakness, as from impending evil; soreness, tenderness. Agonizing pain, restlessness, coldness, weak pulse.

Pylorus constricted; lining of stomach turgid.

Cannot bear clothes round stomach and below hypochondria.

Stomach so irritable it can retain nothing.

Hypochondria

      Tenderness, shooting pains; jaundice; malignant jaundice; also with dark hemorrhages from nose, mouth, etc.; dark, scanty urine.

Stitches in region of liver on drawing a long breath; costive; urine jelly-like and red like blood.

Abdomen

      Violent pain in the course of the colon.

Swelling of the whole abdomen; yellow fever.

Peritonitis, with effusion of bloody serum; especially in septic or zymotic diseases; low temperature.

Inguinal glands enlarged; sloughing, unhealthy pus.

Typhlitis; when of low type, red tipped tongue, prostration; no stool, or discharges very offensive.

Stool etc.

      Bleeding from the anus and other openings of the body.

Constipation, with congestion to the head and headache.

Vomiting, purging and micturition simultaneously caused by spasmodic contractions, with tenesmus and strangury, Dysenteric discharges of dark, fluid blood; involuntary; great debility and faintness.

Sudden, extreme coldness and blueness; suppressed urine; feeble pulse; liquid, dark discharges (probably useful in cholera).

Urine

      Albuminuria, in the course of typhoid diphtheria, etc.: urine smoky from transuded blood.

Suppressed or scanty urine.

Urine copious and light colored.

Male Sexual Organs

      Sexual instinct increased with entire relaxation of the penis.

Female Sexual Organs

      Profuse menses:.

Dysmenorrhoea: beforehand, pain in hypogastrium and down thighs;l; flow copious for two days, then lingers on and off four more; heart weak, feet cold.

Sharp, neuralgic pains, intermittent, from left side of womb to transverse colon, thence cutting across as if from both sides towards centre; thence up to face and temple; with dull frontal headache.

Larynx

      Painful when touched.

Hoarseness, voice weak.

Breathing

      Breathing: anxious; embarrassed, with constriction of throat;; jerking; quick, labored, with weak pulse and nervous agitation; slow, labored, imperceptible pulse; difficult as if lungs would not expand.

Cough

      From tickling in throat, suprasternal fossa or trachea; worse from external pressure and on awaking.

Cough with stitch in the left side and bloody expectoration from the lungs.

Whooping-cough, debility, face blue or pale, remaining so far a time after paroxysm; epistaxis, puffed face; frothy, stringy sputum; threatened pulmonary oedema or paralysis.

Moderate cough, with expectoration of bloody mucus.

Lungs

      Oppression in old people, with hydrothorax; in fever and ague.

stitching pains in the chest; pleurisy with fever of a remittent type.

Heart Pulse

      Heart: beats rapidly, but feebly, sometimes with no pulse at wrist; worse on any exertion, when breathing becomes affected.

Palpitation as if heart tumbled about; feeling of trembling of the heart.

Heart tender when lying on left side.

Pulse; frequent, but soon weak; fluttering, trembling, quick, thready; intermittent, irregular.

Neck Back

      Softening of the spinal cord.

Drawing, tensive pain from right shoulder along neck, as from a tense tendon, worse from pressure and from moving arm.

Upper Limbs

      Left axillary glands swollen and tender. Paroxysms of bruised pains in bones of shoulder.

Hands “go to sleep,” more the left, worse from exertion.

Violent, spasmodic pain in left palm as from a bee sting.

Oozing of blood from under the nails.

Lower Limbs

      Limbs “go to sleep” and tingle while sitting or when crossing them.

Drawing suddenly from left hip to foot.

During and after walking feels and if a tendon was drawing from sole of right foot through bone of leg.

Cramp-like pains in calves, heels, toes.

Sore pain in calf; in sole of foot.

Swelling of the feet every evening.

Limbs in General

      Bruised pain in joints and bones.

Heaviness, as if bones were made of heavy wood.

Numb pain as after cramp, in anterior of fingers and in toes.

Drawing pains in knee, tibia, back, etc.

Throbbing pains in finger-tips, etc.

Position etc.

      Resting: Walking: Motion: Sitting: Exertion: ( Upright: Lying:.

Nerves

      Convulsions, trembling of limbs; foaming at the mouth; violent cries, delirium.

Contraction of flexors.

Great loss of power: Easily tired by slight exertion: muscles refuse their service: paralysis of one side.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
