      Chamomile. Hahnemann. Compositae.

Mind

      Omits words when writing or speaking.

Confusion of the head, with transient, painful pressure on the eyes, in the afternoon.

Dulness of senses, diminished power of comprehension.

Imagines he hears the voice of absent persons, at night.

Child cries, quiet only when carried.

Whining restlessness; the child wants this and that, which when offered are refused, or pushed away.

Cannot endure being spoken to, or interrupted while speaking, especially after rising from sleep.

Irritable, impatient mood.

Great impatience, everything seems to go slowly.

Peevishness, nothing pleases.

Sensorium

      Dulness of senses, with sleepiness, yet cannot sleep.

Vertigo: after eating; staggering, in the morning on rising from bed; with fainting; with dimness of sight when sitting up in bed.

Inner Head

      Pressive pain in both temples, as from strong pressure with the thumbs, forenoon.

Tearing and stinging pain in left side, particularly in the temple, and in and around the eye.

One sided drawing headache.

Violent stinging pains in left side of head, from the occiput to upper jaw.

Pressing headache, as from a stone in the forehead, hot head, worse evenings.

Intense headache in vertex, like a pressure from within, feeling as if the top of her head were blown off.

Throbbing headache.

Transient attacks of throbbing in one-half of the brain.

Pressure, extending from the vertex to the forehead and temples; worse when thinking of it, from sudden stooping, or from mental exertion.

Outer Head

      Head sweats during sleep.

Eyes

      Flickering before the eyes when lying down.

Eyes swollen, in the morning; agglutinated with purulent mucus.

Inflammation of the eyes, lids agglutinated in the morning; discharge of blood from the eyes; inflammation caused by exposure to cold, damp atmosphere, or it worse, by every cold change of weather.

Yellow conjunctiva.

Violent pressure in the orbital region; sensation in the eyeball as if it were tightly compressed from all sides, with momentary obstruction of vision.

Ears

      Roaring in the ears, as from rushing water.

Stitches in the ear, especially when stooping.

Occasional tearing in the left ear.

Pressing earache in spells, with tearing pain, extorting cries.

Nose

      Extremely sensitive to all odors.

Irritation to sneeze, with crawling, dry heat and stopped up sensation; feeling as if coryza would appear.

Coryza : fluent, watery; viscid.

Nosebleed, relieving the confusion of the head.

Face

      Red; or redness and heat of one (left) cheek, other pale; pale, sunken, distorted by pain; yellow, bloated.

Burning in face.

Left cheek swollen.

Neuralgia of the face, the pain causes hot sweat about the head and extorts screams.

Gives great relief in ordinary inflammatory and rheumatic faceache.

Lower Face

      Lips crack and peel.

Rhagades in the middle of lower lip.

Teeth

      Toothache: stitching; digging; gnawing; as from taking cold; during or after eating; if anything warm is taken into the mouth, especially after coffee; in open air; in the room; getting warm in bed : during menstruation; most left side and lower teeth, worse at night.

Teeth feel too long.

Gums red and tender, during dentition.

Tongue etc.

      Taste : bitter; sour; like rancid fat; putrid.

Tongue; coated, white; yellowish; or white at the sides, red in the middle; red, cracked; coated white, with islands on it.

Burning on the tongue.

Mouth

      Fetid smell from the mouth after dinner.

Heat in the mouth, pharynx and oesophagus to stomach.

Collection of saliva, of metallic, sweetish taste.

Throat

      Spasmodic constriction of the pharynx.

Sore throat, with swelling of the parotid gland.

Desires Aversions

      Thirst for cold water and desire for acid drinks.

Likes to hold the cold water to the mouth, a long time; when drinking.

Aversion to : beer; coffee and warm drinks.

Want of appetite.

Eating and Drinking

      After eating and drinking, heat and sweat of the face: after eating, abdomen puffed up. After eating; vertigo, toothache,. After dinner :.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Eructations; sour; constant, empty.

Fruitless efforts to vomit.

Nausea and inclination to vomit, and bitter vomiting.

`Inclination to vomit, with diarrhoea and fever during the night.

Vomiting: of bile; of what has been drunk; slimy matter; sour.

Severe vomiting with griping.

Stomach

      Pressive pain in stomach and beneath the short ribs, which impedes breathing, especially after drinking coffee.

Pressing and cutting in the epigastrium, with anxiety. Severe painful pressure in the epigastrium makes her toss about in despair.

Stinging pain in pit of stomach.

Hypochondria

      Stitching pains in the hypochondria.

Stitches in region of liver, with frequent chilliness, after vexation.

Abdomen

      Griping, tearing colic in region of navel and lower down on both sides, with pain in small of back as if it were broken.

Feeling of griping and chilliness inside of abdomen, passing downwards into legs as far as the knees.

Colic returns from time to time, flatulence accumulates in the hypochondria, and stitches shoot through the chest.

Wind colic, abdomen distended like a drum, wind passes in small quantities without relief; relieved by applying warm cloths.

Abdomen tympanitic and sensitive to touch.

Constricting pain in the abdomen and back; she kicks, grates her teeth and screams.

Dragging toward the abdominal rings, as if the parts were too weak, and hernia would appear.

Pain in the belly from side to side, just above the navel, corresponding to the transverse colon, commencing in the right and going over to left.

Stool etc.

      Stools : watery, frequent, preceded by cutting, constricting bellyache, worse in epigastric region; mucous, with colic and vomiturition; bilious with burning in anus; painful, thin green, consisting of feces and mucus; green, watery, corroding, with colic, thirst, bitter taste and bitter eructations; like chopped eggs, smelling sour; hot, smelling like rotten eggs.

Griping with great ineffectual desire for stool.

Bowels relaxed after “colic;” stools first white then putty- like.

Hemorrhoids: blind; painful, bleeding, burning.

Ulcerating fissures at the anus.

Urine

      Dragging down the ureters like labor-pains, with very frequent urging to urinate.

Burning in the neck of bladder when urinating.

Urine : yellow, with flaky sediment; burning in urethra while passing; scanty, turbid, clay-colored soon after passing; turbid, gets thick when standing, sediment yellow.

Male Sexual Organs

      Violent erections.

Female Sexual Organs

      Menses: too early: too profuse; offensive.

Drawing from small of back forwards, griping and pinching in uterus, followed by discharge of large clots of blood.

Profuse discharge of clotted blood, with severe labor-like pain in the uterus; tearing pains in the legs.

Membranous dysmenorrhoea.

Yellow, smarting leucorrhoea.

Burning in the vagina, as if excoriated.

Pregnancy

      Threatened abortion, with discharge of dark blood.

Labor-pains spasmodic and distressing; tearing pains down into legs.

Rigidity of the os; scarcely able to endure the pains.

Hour-glass contraction; irritable; thirsty; desire for fresh air, restless.

Puerperal convulsions, after anger; or has one red cheek, the other pale.

After pains very distressing.

Suppression of the lochia, followed by diarrhoea, colic and toothache.

Excessive heat, anxiety, tendency to syncope, red face, especially redness of one cheek; formation of pus; puerperal peritonitis.

Mammae hard and tender to touch; with drawing, rheumatic pains; worse in open air and at night.

Nipples inflamed and very tender; infants breasts tender to the touch.

Larynx

      Sensation of rawness and scraping in the larynx.

Hoarseness, on account of tough mucus in the larynx, which can only be removed by strong hawking.

Catarrhal hoarseness of trachea, with dryness of eyelids.

Breathing

      Oppressed, as if chest were not wide enough.

Short, with rattling.

Threatened suffocation, from repercussion of measle eruption.

Dyspnoea, constricted feeling at the supra-sternal fossa, with constant irritation to cough.

Asthmatic attack, seemingly produced by an accumulation of flatus, better from bending the head backwards; in cold air, and from drinking cold water; worse in dry weather and from warm diet.

Cough

      Hoarseness and rattling cough from mucus in the trachea, especially during winter.

Cough caused by irritation low down in the air passages, during the night.

Paroxysms of coughing about midnight, with which something seems to rise in throat as if she would suffocate.

Constant irritation to cough beneath the upper part of the sternum.

Cough particularly at night with tough, slimy expectoration, tasting bitter.

Cough, with expectoration during day, without at night.

Expectoration bloody dark, coagulated.

Lungs

      Constriction in the upper part of chest.

Chest painful when coughing.

Stitches shoot from the abdomen into the middle of the chest, as from flatulence, Sudden stitches and darts through the chest, extorting screams; dyspnoea taking away the voice and threatening suffocation.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
