      Wild indigo W.H. Burt Leguminosae.

Mind

      Stupor falls asleep being spoken to, or answering.

Confusion of ideas confused as if drunk.

Cannot confine his mind, a short of wild, wandering feeling.

Indisposed to think, want of power; mind seems weak.

Body feel scattered tosses about to get the pieces together cannot sleep because cannot get pieces together.

Delirium especially at night, or constant.

Mentally restless but too lifeless to move.

Sensorium

      Head feels heavy as if he could not sit up.

Frequent fainting tongue dry, brown in the morning.

Vertigo and weak feeling of entire system especially of lower limbs and knees.

Inner Head

      Dull heavy pressive headache.

Soreness of brain, worse stooping.

Frontal headache with pressure at root of nose; with feeling of fulness and tightness of the whole head.

Dull pain in anterior lobes of brain and right frontal sinus afternoon.

Excitement of brain, such as precedes delirium.

Frequent pain in r. temple, sharp pains by spells in both.

Head feels large and heavy; with numb feeling of head and face; stitches or shocks in various parts of head.

Heavy pain at base of brain; pain in base of brain with lameness and drawing in cervical muscles.

Outer Head

      Top of head feels as if it would fly off.

Great tightness of the skin on forehead.

Scalp feels sore.

Eyes

      Vessels congested eyes look red, inflamed.

Eyes feel swollen, slight lachrymation with burning.

Cannot bear light, eyes burn, but do not water. Chronic ophthalmia.

Eyeballs feel sore; sore and lame on moving them.

Ears

      Dull hearing.

Roaring in ears with mental confusion.

Nose

      Thick mucus from the nose.

Dull pain at root of nose.

Sneezing and feeling as after taking cold.

Face

      Face : swallow; cheeks yellow, with central deep flush; dark red, with a besotted expression; flushed, dusky; hot and perceptibly flushed.

Burning, prickling of left side of face and head.

Cheeks burn.

Face and whole head feel numb.

Muscles of jaw rigid.

Lower Face

      Pain in articulation of lower jaw. Typhus.

Teeth

      Teeth and gums sore; by pressing with the finger, large quantities of blood ooze out.

Sordes on teeth and lips.

Tongue etc.

      Taste : flat, bitter.

Tongue feels swollen, thick, makes talking difficult.

Tongue yellow along the centre; at first white, with red papillae here and there, followed by a yellow-brown coating in centre, edges being red, shining; dry, brown down the centre.

Cracked, sore, ulcerated.

Mouth

      Fetid odor : also after mercury.

Putrid ulceration of buccal cavity with salivation; well developed ulcers.

Cancrum oris, copious saliva; gums loose, flabby, dark, red or purple, fetid.

Mouth and tongue very dry. Fevers.

Stomatitis materna; breath fetid; feeble state.

Saliva rather abundant somewhat viscid, tasting flat.

Throat

      Constrictive feeling causing frequent efforts at deglutition; throat sore, feels contracted.

Fauces dark red; dark, putrid ulcers; tonsils and parotids swollen; unusual absence of pain.

Tickling in throat provoking cough; uvula elongated.

Can swallow liquids only; the least solid food gags.

Mucus abundant and viscid, can neither swallow it nor bring it

up.

OEsophagus feels as if constricted from above down to the stomach; can only swallow water.

Desires Aversions

      Constant desire for water; nausea, want of appetite.

Eating and Drinking

      All symptoms worse from beer. After breakfast, dull feeling.

Nausea and Vomiting

      Pressure at the stomach, belching of large quantities of wind.

Nausea with eructations, followed by painful vomiting.

Feeling as if he would vomit, but no nausea, with severe shooting in left kidney and to the left of the umbilicus.

Stomach

      Sinking, gone feeling at the stomach, fainting; tongue brown in the morning.

Constant burning distress in epigastrium, severe colicky pains in the umbilical, and especially in the hypogastric region; rumbling in bowels.

Cramp in the stomach, evening.

Hypochondria

      Pain in liver, from right lateral ligament to gall-bladder; can scarcely walk.

Must stir about, yet motion is painful; pain over gall bladder.

Abdomen

      Distress, dull pain in umbilical region.

Distended abdomen; fullness; flatulence, rumbling, feels as if vomiting would relieve; mushy stools.

Sharp shooting pains in bowels.

Dull aching, distress in bowels.

Right ileac region sensitive.

Abdominal muscles sore on pressure.

Glands of the left groin swollen; painful on walking.

Stool etc.

      Stools: dark, thin, fecal, offensive; soft papescent, with large quantities of mucus; of pure blood or bloody mucus.

Fetid exhausting diarrhoea, causing excoriation.

Offensive diarrhoea day and night; child can swallow nothing but milk..

Dark brown mucus and bloody stools; brown tongue. Typhus.

Constipation : hemorrhoids in the afternoon.

Dysentery; rigors, pains in the limbs, and small of the back; stools small; all blood, not very dark, but thick; tenesmus; great prostration, brown tongue, low fever; in the autumn, or in hot weather.

Urine

      Shooting pains in region of left kidney.

Urine : scanty dark red.

Burning when urinating.

Male Sexual Organs

      Dull drawing in right groin and testicle, also in legs and knee joints.

Orchitis; cannot sleep because he feels as if his body was scattered about the bed.

Pregnancy

      Threatened abortion. Typhoid.

Stomatitis materna.

Lochia acrid, fetid; great prostration.

Puerperal fever, with typhoid symptoms.

Larynx

      Very sore to the touch, swallowing or speaking.

Hoarseness. Aphonia.

Swelling of epiglottis, mornings.

Increased secretion from the bronchial tubes and fauces, with expectoration of mucus.

Breathing

      Oppressed breathing, P.M. with cough, right lung sore, sneezing.

A woke with great difficulty of breathing; lungs felt tight. compressed; could not get a full breath; must open window and get his face to the fresh air, burning heat of the skin, dry tongue, accelerated pulse.

On lying down difficult breathing, but no constriction of chest, must rise; afraid to go to sleep, fears suffocation.

Cough

      Tickling in throat provoking cough..

Lungs

      Tightness of the chest; constriction.

Pain in right lung; less in the left, with soreness.

Heart Pulse

      Compass and frequency of the heart’s pulsations seem increased; they seem to fill the chest.

Pulse first accelerated, afterwards slow and faint.

Neck Back

      Neck so tired he cannot hold it easy in any position; sore down the neck.

Cervical muscles stiff, lame.

Back and hips very stiff; ache severely.

Dull lumbar backache, worse walking.

Dull sacral pain, as from pressure, fatigue, long stooping; soon extends around hips and down right leg.

Feels as if lying on a board; changes position often, bed feels so hard; worst part is region of sacrum.

Upper Limbs

      Pain in left shoulder, extending down arm.

Feels sore and stiff about shoulders and chest.

Numbness of left hand and forearm, with pricking worse from movement, sharp darting pains through fingers.

Hands feel large, tremulous.

Lower Limbs

      Lower limbs weak, vacillating when walking.

Soreness in anterior portion of thighs, worse after sitting awhile.

Drawing in the hips and calves.

Cramp in calves whenever he moves them.

Left foot numb, prickling.

Limbs in General

      Aching in limbs.

Drawing in arms and legs.

Position etc.

      Motion : Moving eyes : Moving from place to place : Changing position often : Walking : Must walk: Stooping: Going to bed: Lying down : Wants to lie down: Cannot lie down in one place, must rise : Position of head not easy: Sitting: -by fire: Parts rested on: Lower jaw dropped, slides down in bed : lies with head thrown back.

Nerves

      Restless, uneasy, could confine himself to nothing; wanted to be moving from place to place, evening.

General weak feeling, but worse of lower limbs.

Great languor; wants to lie down.

Paralysis of whole left side; left hand and arm numb, powerless.

Slides down in bed : feels as if sinking away.

Indescribable sick feeling all over.

Sleep

      Delirious stupor: falls asleep while answering a question or while being talked to.

Afraid to go to sleep, fears nightmare and suffocation, Drowsy, stupid, tired feeling; disposition to half close eyes. Slept well until about 3 A.M., then restless until morning; tosses about.

Restless; does not sleep quietly.

Cannot sleep; head or body feels scattered about the bed.

Restless, with frightful dreams.

Quiet but persistent wakefulness; melancholy.

Time

Temperature and Weather

      Warmth of fire : Open air : Hot weather: Autumn: Averse to open air. Sore throat.

Chilly, 10 or 11 A.M., afternoon glowing heat. Lung troubles.

Chill Fever Sweat

      Chilly all day; whole body feels sore; chill over the back while sitting by a fire, forenoon.

Chilly going into the open air; chills over the back and lower limbs; evening.

Whole surface hot and dry, with occasional chills, mostly up and down the back.

Heat at night; burning in the legs preventing sleep.

Limbs feel hot, except the feet, which are cold.

C. Hering
Hering got the degree of M. D. from the University of Wuezburg with highest honours. The theme of his thesis was "De'Medicina Futura" (The medicine of future). Hering left Germany for West Indies and finally arrived at Philadelphia in Jan, 1833. He established a homeopathic school at Allentown, Pennsylvania, commonly known as "Allentown Academy". Soon he became very popular as a physician. He is known as the 'Father of Homeopathy' in America.
