Sticta


Dr. S.R. Phatak describes the clinically confirmed symptoms of the homeopathic remedy Sticta in his Concise Materia Medica, published in 1977….


Generalities

      Commonly known as Lung-wort is a remedy for coryza, bronchial catarrh, nervous and rheumatic disturbances. General feeling of dullness and lassitude as when a cold is coming. Rheumatic, stiffness. Nervous, sense of levitation of different parts. Painful dry mucous membranes. Diagonal pains. Hysteria; chorea; after loss of blood. Ill effects of falls, haemorrhages.

Worse

      Night. Lying down. Motion. Change of temperature.

Better

      Free discharges. Open air.

Mind

      Feels as if she must talk, about everything and anything; whether listened to or not. Lively, kicks her heels up. Feels as if floating in air.

Head

      Aches before catarrhal discharge appears. Heaviness; forehead.

Eyes

      Burning of eyelids with soreness of eyeballs on closing lids or turning eyes.

Nose

      Pressure or stuffy fullness at the root of nose. Constant need to blow the nose but no discharge. Painful dryness of mucous membranes. Coryza which dries up soon, forming scabs difficult to dislodge. Hay fever, incessant sneezing.

Throat

      Dry; dropping of mucus posteriorly.

Stomach & Abdomen

      Diarrhoea frothy, in morning.

Urinary

      Profuse urination, with sore painful bladder.

Female

      Absence of milk after delivery.

Respiratory

      Tickling high up in pharynx. Incessant dry hacking cough prevents sleep, worse coughing, inspiration; towards evening and when tired; after measles, colds; influenza; whooping cough. Air passages numb. Pulsation from right side of sternum down to abdomen. Bronchitis. Pain from sternum to spine worse motion.

Neck and Back

      Sore stiff neck; pains to shoulder. Restless hands and feet. Legs as if floating in the air. Rheumatism. Red spots on affected joints. Bursitis esp. about the knee. Cold moist limbs. Profuse sweat on hands. Chorea like spasms.

Sleep

      Sleepless from nervousness; from cough; after surgical operations.

S.R. Phatak
A pioneer of Homoeopathy in Maharashtra, Dr Shankar Raghunath Phatak was born on 6th September, 1896. He did his MBBS from Grant Medical College, in 1924. Started his practice but somehow not satisfied with Allopathic Treatment.

He was convinced about Homoeopathy while going through Sir William Osler's writings on 'History of Medicine' so switched over to an entirely Homoeopathic Practice in 1932. He also started working on Homoeopathic literature along with his Practice.

He has contributed immensely to homoeopathic literature. He was an ardent follower of Dr Boger. His Repertory is based on Boger's ''A Synoptic key to Materia Medica'.
