Kali Nitricum

Generalities

      Potassium Nitrate affects respiratory organs, kidneys, heart and blood vessels. Secretions are increased, into cavities. Sudden dropsical swelling of the whole body. It is often indicated in suppurative nephritis, asthma and cardiac asthma. Pains are dull stitching, throbbing. Wooden, numbness. Relapsing phthisis. Very weak. Haemorrhagic tendency.

Worse

      Walking Cold. Damp. Taking cold. Eating veal. Lying with head low. Breathing.

Better

      Gentle motion. Drinking water in sips.

Mind

      Mental weariness from lack of occupation or interest. Discouragement and fear of death.

Head

      Fainting fits, with vertigo in morning worse on standing, better sitting down. Pains in occiput better letting hair down. Head pain better motion of carriage. Hair was being pulled during pain.

Eyes

      External angle of right eye twitches worse chewing.

Ears

      Chronic deafness from paralysis of auditory nerve. Vertigo and tinnitus.

Nose

      Swollen feeling worse right nostril. Point red and itching. Polypus.

Mouth

      Tongue, red with burning pimples.

Stomach

      Nausea, as if about to vomit worse at night. Epigastric or substernal pains go towards axilla.

Abdomen

      Diarrhoea from eating veal. Thin, watery dark, bloody stools.

Urinary

      Frequent and profuse emission of clear urine. Diabetes insipidus. Dull kidney pains.

Female

      Profuse menses, black, like ink.

Respiratory

      Rapid gasping breathing; sits upright. Violent dyspnoea; with burning in chest; dull stitches and nausea; can only drink in sips, though thirsty. Congestion of right lung. Asthma. Free sour expectoration gives relief.

Heart

      Palpitation worse lying.

Neck and Back

      Pains extend into the chest.

Extremities

      Hands and fingers feel swelled.

Fever

      External coldness; chin; skin. Internal burning.

S.R. Phatak
A pioneer of Homoeopathy in Maharashtra, Dr Shankar Raghunath Phatak was born on 6th September, 1896. He did his MBBS from Grant Medical College, in 1924. Started his practice but somehow not satisfied with Allopathic Treatment.

He was convinced about Homoeopathy while going through Sir William Osler's writings on 'History of Medicine' so switched over to an entirely Homoeopathic Practice in 1932. He also started working on Homoeopathic literature along with his Practice.

He has contributed immensely to homoeopathic literature. He was an ardent follower of Dr Boger. His Repertory is based on Boger's ''A Synoptic key to Materia Medica'.
