ANXIETY AND SEX

Unfortunately, from the very characteristic of sensations, this is not possible. Any pleasurable sensation, if indulged in for too long a time, loses its pleasurable quality and may even become painful. This is one of the properties of sensation and you cannot alter it. You can increase the time but you do so at the expense of the intensity of pleasurable feeling.

PATHOLOGICAL ANXIETY

In the intense anxiety condition of pathological anxiety, it is natural therefore that both the time and space sense become stretched when nothing interests the patient. The disease may come to a standstill at this stage and after a few weeks or months, a gradual adjustment of the mind begins to take place as a result of treatment and the patient shows signs of improvement. If left to itself, the disease may develop further and may show certain extraordinary changes in its development.

HYSTERIA

The very first thing that should strike any medical man is that hysteria can take any form. I mean that its symptoms may resemble any disease. It may look like meningitis, appendicitis, gastritis, like heart or lung disease. There may be blindness, deafness and various forms of paralysis. There are diarrhoeas, dysenteries and constipations, leaving aside a host of sexual diseases included under terms like vaginismus, impotency, spermatorrhoea etc.

PATHOLOGICAL ANXIETY

At the start there may be a difficulty in diagnosing a condition of pathological anxiety from normal anxiety. In fact I believe there are a large number of men who live in this borderline and do not consult a doctor for their condition but try to force themselves to believe that their conditions are normal. But when once the disease has advanced to some extent, there is no difficulty in recognising the condition.

DIET IN INTESTINAL DISEASES

In determining the diet of patients affected with intestinal disturbances, specially diarrhoea, it is best to ascertain first the nature of the stools and thereby gain a first hand knowledge of the physiologic activity of the intestine of the patient. It has been found that the majority of the diarrhoeas met with are due to irritation set up in the large intestine by fermentations of the residual food matter by bacteria which normally inhabit that part of the gut.

NUTRITION PROBLEM

The force which holds the food-elements together in combination, is called potential energy. In breaking up the food into simpler compounds, the body sets this energy free, i.e. changes it into kinetic energy. The changes by which this is brought about have been likened to burning, i.e., the foods are oxidised in the system setting free energy and heat. Proteins fats, carbohydrates may all be burnt up to furnish energy and heat.

NUTRITION PROBLEM

Very little help be required, I think, for those who are ready to pay annas twelve or more for their daily diet. The listing would be quite easy if one carefully goes through the food list. A substantial and tasteful diet is quite easy of comprehension if one is ready to spare Rupee one daily. But this would be possible only for the rich, for whom this article was not primarily meant.

ANXIETY AND SEX

One speaks of a death due to “a broken heart.” It is not poetry, but a fact. This in only a figurative way of speaking about the effects of a severe mental shock, because most of the emotions are felt physically in the region of the heart. There are numerous case on record where a person dies shortly after the death of a beloved one. Among domesticated animals one observes the same thing.
