Generalities
Various species of Gentiana seem to have a similar in increasing the appetite, and, for a time, stimulating the action of the heart and elevating the temperature, though a prolonged and depressing reaction follows. Following the ravenous appetite, we find flatulent dyspepsia, with abdominal diseases and yellow diarrhoea; also, in some cases, symptoms of catarrhal affection of the throat.
