–The kidneys are liable to diseases of many kinds. They are all serious, and should not be treated without medical advice. Perhaps the commonest is congestion, due to chill, the symptoms of which are suppression of urine or great diminution in its quantity, and pain in the back; often there is vomiting at the same time.
The treatment for this is to put the patient to bed, with hot bottles to his feet, and hot flannels to the small of the back, and plenty of blankets over him; the lightest of light diet must be given, including plenty of Barley-water, and Aconite 3 every half-hour until the doctor can be summoned.
