Effusion of blood into the tissues surrounding the eyeball, usually the result of a blow.

Treatment.–If the skin is unbroken apply Arnica lotion (five drops of the strong tincture in half a teacupful of water), the eye to be bathed with this and a compress kept applied, and covered with a single fold of flannel-not with oil-silk. If the skin is broken, Arnica must not be applied locally, but Hamamelis instead, in the same way. Internally give Arnica 3 every half- hour.

John Henry Clarke MD (1853 – November 24, 1931 was a prominent English classical homeopath. Dr. Clarke was a busy practitioner. As a physician he not only had his own clinic in Piccadilly, London, but he also was a consultant at the London Homeopathic Hospital and researched into new remedies — nosodes. For many years, he was the editor of The Homeopathic World. He wrote many books, his best known were Dictionary of Practical Materia Medica and Repertory of Materia Medica
