Clarke gives the toxic effects of homeopathy drug Guaiacum and its therapeutic uses in non-toxic doses in his book The ABC Manual of Materia Medica and Therapeutics, published in 1901….


      Guaiac.

CHARACTERISTICS.

      Prophylactic of gout. Subacute gout, muscular rheumatism and rheumatic tonsillitis. Acute tonsillitis. Sciatica.

DOSE.

      Tinctura guaiaci, 1/2-2 dr.

Tinctura guaiaci ammoniata, 1/2-2 dr.

A very unpalatable remedy. Should be given in milk or mucilage three or four times per day. A lozenge containing the resin is more agreeable.

THERAPEUTIC USES.

      Prophylactic of gouty attacks. (Should be continued for a long period of time).

Subacute gout.

Chronic muscular rheumatism.

Rheumatic tonsilitis.

Acute tonsilitis. (Two-grain lozenges every two hours, or thirty drops every three or four hours).

Sciatica.
